How Do Most of You Guys Make Your Basslines?

i usually sample bass or play it on the asr, but i'm curious what bass plugins/vsts do yall recommend?

when i try doing the filtering to get bass sounds, it jsut doesn't work. I think i'm getting some sort of weird phase cancellation. Here's what I do:

I load my beat (drums and all) into my comp.
Then, I re-record just the melody of hte beat (so no drums).
I load this track into audacity, beef up the bass, put a low pass filter on it, and stick it under the full, non-filtered beat (with drums).
But in some spots, there's this weird sound that happens like once in every bar.

Anything I can do to get rid of this?

can't really beat Trilogy for a plugin bass module

Trilogy is excellent, 2nd that.

1)find a good bass note (usually and preferably from vinyl)sample into MPC

2)assign note to 16 levels tuning on MPC

3)make filter adjustments, resonance adjustments to liking

4)set attack/decay(note off sounds cool as f*ck and i would say works better/sounds better with the note variation slider than mono or poly which works better for 16 levels)

5)Play bass note in real time using the note repeat button and 16 levels together off and on at the same time.

its incredible what one can come up with...the possibilities are endless.

autochromatic assignment is bananas too

tip:use the "note off" function for synth 80's sounding bass notes, and use those kinds of bass samples with the note variation slider....sh*t sounds just like a real synth bass module from the 80's!

sample a single bass note i hear on a record, maybe equalize it.

assign the bass note to every pad a random bank and the change the tune of the pads depending on what note i want.

EQ the shit out of a sample. Or from synths (Micron or Lil Phatty). Though pretty soon I'ma pick me up a bass guitar to **** with.

Bass guitar pre amp compressor into mpc.If you own a quality bass you really can get the sound you
want from the bass e.q. itself. I recommend music man stingray.I also use my bass amps D.I

Sample in melodies with the bass boosted and cut the mid and hi with the EQ. Then filter further within the machine. Sometimes a one shot bass stab and 12 Level the sucka (16 Levels for you).

cool thread.. Yeah I'm trying to learn playing live bass, myself.. Untill then. Actually, just about all the methods I've used so far have allready been mentioned in this thread..
My favs are INST programs, 16 Levels, LP filter, or EQ. Whatever suits the situation..
