backing up my 4k hd?

hey ive been thinking about selling my 4k but i want to keep the HD because i have tons of samples and i think its like 500gb or something kinda forgot now it was already installed when i bought it.
anyway im thinking of selling my 4k but i dont want to lose ,my sample library and it would take along time to backup on my computer. i was thinking maybe i could remove it and put in the factory 80gb and use it as an external?
any suggestion ?

Find out how much space is being used on the 500 gb, grab a drive big enough to hold that info, then follow through with your quote above.

I would swap out the 500GB with the stock 80GB hard drive and buy a 30 dollar usb hard drive enclosure to put the 500GB drive in. Backing up data from the MPC4000 is slowwww through the front USB port. It's usb 1.0 which is no bueno.

just wondering...why are you selling it? getting something else? what & why? 4000 is the best mpc ever.

great idea, i started backing it up to an external hd and it would take weeks to finish

I thought katz were already on to using external drive enclosures. Hot swappable drive bays work too, if you've got access to one. It would be even better to grab one that has a two bay tray so that you could install both drives and do your transferring all in one go.

Just wondered if anyone had come up with another way to backup the drive quickly other than pulling it out of the MPC? I picked up a used 4000 and it had a noisy 80 gig drive in it. It had some useful sounds too, but it died on me a couple days ago with the click of death. Too late...

I opened up the MPC and installed a 200 gig IDE in there. It was pre-formatted to FAT 32 so it's all good and it's much quieter. I was just hoping there was an easier way of backing up the drive than opening up the machine, removing the drive, putting it in an enclosure, etc.

I'm just getting into the MPC so I have barely tested AKsys but can AKsys do this quicker than the a drive connected to the front USB port?

What is the most common workflow was for backing up Sequences and Samples in the MPC4000? Anyone know of a tutorial anywhere online? Maybe the best approach is just saving with Aksys as I go and skipping the internal HD altogether?

I'm still considering putting an SSD with an ESATA to IDE adaptor in there...just dont want to have to stress about imminent drive failure.
