MPC 4k and Recycle: A Match Made in Heaven!

Well, after getting Aksys to finally work in WIndows 7 64 bit, and playing with different editors(Audacity, Ableton, and Recycle), I must say Recycle is the shiznit for the 4k. Mainly because you can chop up samples super fast and export them as akp. files! How dope is that! I love the 4k baby, and this just made it so much better. For those of you with a 4k and Recycle, do not sleep on this !

So tom, I take it you installed xp on your newer machine as a dual boot?

If so, that's what I was eventually going to suggest as well. Or use an external usb drive loaded with xp and change the boot order in the bios.

I do not know how to mess with bios and not sure about dual boot either, I just loaded an old copy of windows xp into vmare which is basically a lot like xp mode except you can drag and drop from host to xp and you can merge them into each other so it's seamless, which is exactly what I was looking for. If anyone is having trouble with this don't hesitate to PM me, I spent hours upon hours trying to figure it out, but once i did it was soooo worth it

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask: When I make a akp. program in recycle and export , when I load it on the 4k the first 4 pads have no sounds, but the rest do, does this have to do with recycle only exporting keygroup programs?

Yes.

If you want to use the recycled drum loop as a kit in the mpc. It may be better to loop half a bar kick, snare, and a hat and chop that. Or you can silence the parts you don`t need in recycle before the export. Or simply convert the keygroup program into a drum program, press pad assign on the front face, and go through and assign each drum hit to taste. Drum machine do as you please.

Whats the upside of exporting as a .AKP file? I just load the Wav chops into my 4000...but yeah this combination is no joke...I have the same setup...the 4000 and Recycle was made for each other and with 6 banks you have an endless arsenal of chops...way better then the other MPC's with their standard 4 banks...I love my damn 4000

Recycle's original design is to timeslice drum loops so you can change the tempo or change the order of the drum hits like the Amen break used in jungle and drum and bass. Akp is the key group program format the S5000, S6000, z series samplers and the 4k mpc is based, thus if you slice up skull snaps break in recycle and save in akp format. The samples and the midi file that comes with it with play in time without any extra steps on your part. Just adjust the tempo on the main page. Or eraser the sequence and use step edit to write in new patterns in on the tracks.

But if you just want to build kits do as I said before above.

If this is the then I will have to get recycle. Is there a version for the mac? I use audacity but I want something better.

I am not sure. but I do know Recyle, IMHO, is a lot better in workflow than audacity...good luck

Yes recycle works for win and mac. In fact I use it occasionally now with my iMac 2.8GHz computer. Make sure to also download the 2.0 update from the site.

I'm a little confused right now Does it save you that much time using recycle? I thought the 4000 had the best OS and features? I'm only asking because I'm use to doing everything in my MPC...... I don't even have a computer hooked up to my MPC.

I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers or troll. I know the 4000 ( feature and specs )is the top dog sampler from Akai..... I only ask because I've wanted to try out the 4000 so I can compare it to the other MPC's I've messed with. ( 3000,2000xl & My 5000 )

MPC 4K is a grid based slicer based on the number of regions you set up to 32. Recycle is a threshold based slicer great for drum loops and breaks thus can be automatic. Do some research to see the benefits of recycle. It isnt necessary but it a great tool to have.

Yeah you nailed it, the threshold feature is awesome , esp. like you said for drum breaks.
