The MPC 5000 and its RAM

We are told by computer vendor that in the last OS windows vista..windows 7...We need at least 1gb of ram to run the OS.


Is anybody think or know if it's the same logic with a sampler?


I encountered a few "slow downs' with my MV when i had 128megs of ram..no that i have 512megs..it works perfectly.


What's the problem with akai and ram? first the price of the Exm128 is abusive...then the maximum ram on the 5000 is ridiculous compared to how much memory that beast could ask...

I really dont understand them.

I'm sure that all the problem and bugs comes from not enough ram memory..

What are your thoughts?

I believe the ram is dedicated to sample time and sequencing... I could be wrong, but that is what I always believed for all models of mpc and MV... your thing about the mv could also be related to other variables between the 128 stick and the 512 stick (such as speed etc)

was wondering...on a computer daw the more ram you have the more vst you can load...a program can be consider as a vst once you tweak all the sounds in it...i might be wrong too...but who is willing to run a computer nowadays with less than 2gb of ram?

Those 196megs of ram (max) in the mpc 5000 are really strange... 128 megs + 68 megs...why 68 megs??

When we know ram goes from 32...64..128...256...512


I remember my 64 megs of ram x2 to have 128 megs total on my pentium 2 back in 1998...


That is really somthing strange...

when OS 2.0 came for mpc5k, system response got abit slower, didn't it?
I felt that with the 128MB RAM expansion, it got better.
also, don't load programs into RAM if you're not using them in your current music project.
otherwise graphics and control response can get v-e-e-e-r-y slow.

It's not 196. It's a 192MB expansion (128 + 64). Yeah, I don't know why the limit, but it's never really been a problem for me, even with lots of samples loaded.

my bad why i thought it was 196megs...anyway adding only 64 megs is not enough

The OS is build to run on the original ram, if you upgrade the ram's it will only give you more sample time, not faster response.

yes what about the synth? how much ram is allowed to the synth? I'm curious to see whats really inside all those MPC...How does it really work...What's the processor? the frequency of that processor?...

When you look at the screen it looks simple...but it's all computerized inside...im not a geek..i'm more of a curious customer...

If someone can answer the question of the MPC processor... its frequency...the computer sound chip inside also (if there's one).

I wish i could have been a genius to unlock the ram capacity on the MPC 5000...maybe a future JJOS trick and feature ...

Going back to my mpc 1000..i need to understand the mpc logic of work...im still a bit confused...that jogwheel round and round and round to get to your sample (to edit it) is awwww awwwful..

But i like that mpc groove...no doubt that's tight...
