korg to mpc

hi guys im trying to get my korg to play threw my mpc.i want to use it to build baselines and what not but i dont realley understand the whole midi thing.can anyone tell me what to do so i can hear my korg play out my mpc

its a micro korg btw if that helps

well first you need to learn 1 important fact about midi:

midi involves data only, not sound (unless you have a pair of midi headphones), so basically... your korg (korg what?) being attached to the mpd using midi cables is just so you can record key presses and play them back. you still need the audio outputs from the "korg" to be plugged in to the mixer etc...


try this:
attach a midi cable from the mpc midi output A to the input on the korg, and then attach another midi cable from your korg midi output to the mpc midi input 1. now in the mpc midi options set the midi out to channel 1, and do the same in the korg...

see what that does. if that doesn't help, then RTMFM of both pieces of gear. (yes the manuals are available on the official websites of the companies.

Plug the audio outs of the micro korg into the audio ins of the MPC. Go to sample screen and hit record, play the korg and hit stop. Name your sample, now you have sounds from the korg you can play through the MPC's pads.

If you want to add korg sounds to your beat without going to sample screen you need 2 MIDI cables and something with more than one stereo input such as a mixer or audio interface. Plug the MIDI cables from korg out to MPC in and vice versa. Plug the audio outs from your MPC and your micro korg into the mixer and the main mixer outs go to your monitors. In your sequencer screen on the MPC you have to scroll where it says DRUM to make it say MIDI. Hit record and play some notes, the notes you press (not audio) are recorded in the MPC sequencer. When you hit stop and play all to replay your sequence the MPC will use the performance data you recorded to trigger the same performance.
