i dont think an 8gb card will work with os 1.14...you need os 1.2

(take with a grain of salt, correct me if wrong)
(edit: yea im real confused...i thought the scsi readers worked with 1.2 ..... that's where i was wrong)

you aren't wrong, if the card reader is not working with 1.14, then for sure you need 1.20.

BTW, you need to install that with the thing you had before the card reader so that means you gotta open it up again.

If your card reader drive is an ATAPI/IDE model, then you must use 1.2. OS 1.14 does not support ATAPI/IDE card readers, only SCSI ones (like the ones I sell :P ).

When the XL doesn't recognize the card reader for whatever reason (such as the common incompatible CF card), it gives you the very confusing message of "No floppy device". This often confuses people who wonder why they get that message when they are trying to use a card reader!

to add to that, I think the XL may say "no floppy found" when no media at all is connected (such as no f-rom, no floppy, no scsi etc...) though I am not 100% sure on that.

if you want to use an atapi card reader, you might need os 1.2 and then you can only use 1gb at a time.

if you want to use 8gb card, and use all 8gb, you need a scsi card reader, and those use 1.14.

i was mistaken, i thought you needed 1.2 to run a scsi card reader.

You guys have got it down! Arno, if I can help you with a SCSI CF card drive, please visit my website (see sig) and contact me with any questions. You'll love having one of my CF-CARD drives in your MPC - they are fast, reliable and make no noise at all.
