hi need cheap turntable to connect to my akai s950

need cheap vinyl player to hook up with Akai S950, dont need anything fancy so long as it has an input to the s950. also what leads would i need/how abouts would i go about doing this? also how would i synch the sampler to an atari st? any explainations as to how would be appreciated.

Belt-Drive turntables are really meant for consumers. If you're going to be beat matching or scratching, get direct-drives. The problem with belt-driven is this. They don't hold their pitch - at all, they speed up and slow down throughout the tune (not only during the beat-matching process) and they're effected badly by heat - as the belt stretches and contracts. I must stress though that this doesn't only happen through heat - with belt driven decks it will happen anyway with general use.

Direct Drive turntables use a motor instead of a rubber belt. The Motor is responsible for the spinning of the platter

is it really that big of a problem? my room is never really hot and even if it is there is an a/c. i am trying to find direct drives but most seem out of my budgetl

Keeping it old school with the ST?

Thankfully it's got built in midi ports so you're good to go with that. You can either daisy chain it between your keyboard and 950, use a midi splitter or even a dedicated midi patchbay.

Either way it's pretty simple if you've only got a few bits of gear.
