Getting sounds to turn off when other is played

Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hold SHIFT and press 6> select DRUM1, 2, 3 OR 4(wherever your program is)> press F2(PARAMS)> cursor over to where it says Overlap:POLY> press the Open Window button> hit the pad that you want to use to mute the other sound> cursor down and hit the pad that you want to be muted.

mute. in program mode in params where it says POLY hit open window then just assign what u want to cut.

go to program, then (pick a sound) to parameters, in the far right of the parameter screen (of the selected sound in which your looking at) it reads "Voice Overlap: ..... (<it'll either say poly, mono, or note off) press the 'Window' button while in that box...and shazam..assign it!

is there anyway of getting more than two mutes out of a single pad assignment? i have been able to work around this limitation but i could use more mute assignments or a dedicated 'mute grouping'.

ME TOO!! I think if I could have just one feature added to the MPC, it would be a proper "mute group" instead of just being limited to 2 mutes per pad. I miss having that all the time!
Akai has that on their rack samplers like the S2000 and S3000xl, I don't know why they screwed it up on the MPC.

I just assign the sound with the same settings to another pad and work my way around it like that.

to me this is the only redeeming feature I think the MPC1000 has, Mute Groups. once you've used this feature and kind of ease of assignment, your spoiled. again, i can work around it but it is missed.

since Akai is still manufacturing the 2000xl, i wonder if they'll ever upgrade the OS? and if it would be worth shooting them an email suggesting this?

doesn't "note off" effectively do the same thing instead of assigning "pads to cutoff"

yes, 'note off' is similiar but isn't as effective or player-intuitive as mute groups. i use the note off function quite a bit but dedicating mute groups allows for freakin' your samples on the fly. obviously production goes on without dedicated mute groups but it's just a feature that'd helpful. only two assignments of mutes is helpful but again it's not the same as a group.

you ****** is lazy - use Note Off man, its the best. Just takes a little longer in step programming thats all.
