Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I have an MPC2000, and I am trying to run my Fantom FA76 through the midi channel in my MPC. My goal is to be able to play the sounds on the Fantom and sequence/record them on the MPC2000. I have 1 midi cord running thru the "out" on the MPC to the "In" on the Fantom; and a cord running from the "out" on the Fantom to the "In" on the MPC and I still get no sound. Who can help me out? :x

keep in mind that no actual sound is flowing through the midi cables...only note data.

you need to monitor your fantom to hear the sounds out of it, and your mpc to hear your mpc sounds. if you have a mixer, you can mix them both together and listen at the same time (or you could rig it up one channel from each going to L and R in on a stereo or something).

also, the tracks on your mpc must be set to MIDI and the proper midi channel, to match the midi channel of the sounds on the fantom.

but yea, to hear sound, you need to listen to the fantom, and also make sure it is talking to the mpc correctly and over the correct midi channel.

ps. i think it might help to go one way at a time...first midi out of mpc to fantom midi in...now try to get the fantom to respond to the mpc pads. once you got that, you can try to get the fantom to record into the mpc (should be easy at that point).
