Still issues wit da 4k?

So, i am using the 2kxl for some years now, and finally i start considering the 4k for studiowork..

since i know, that the 4k had some buggy stuff going in its OS for years, i wanna ask you, how are the latest OS'es ?
Still some Bugs left, which ones are the most severe?

I Never have crashes....I don't experience any bugs that slow down my work flow. I'm runnin 1.51 OS

Same here and Im running O.S 1.60....No crashes or bugs.....!

Hi,
I just did a 1 hour Live set on Saturday. My first with the MPC 4000 and it went
flawless. Couldn't have done it as easy without the machine. Did soundcheck
at 6pm, left it on, until we went on at 9:30 and played for an hour. So was on for
over 4 hours.

I've experienced 3 crashes on OS 1.60, all in the "SAMPLE" pages,
when scrolling through hundreds of samples with the Jog Wheel or once when
using QFX, I recieved a black screen
with an error message. None of them were repeatable.
Hopefully if I can provide enough detail
and a set of steps for them to reproduce they can find the error in the code. It's not
something that I've ran into for over a month (and I've been doing a lot of prep work
during that month to get ready for the show), so it's not something to worry about.



I'll go ahead and detail them here in case anybody else runs into anything similar it will
come up with for a search.

- with the above, I loaded up the MPC 1000 Kit of the Day (Samples only did not use
the MPC 1000 program) ACETONE, and was scrollling quickly through the "SAMPLE" "LIST" screen and recieved a black screen with the above error message.

Resolution: Only able to reboot with Powerbutton

same as above using KOTD ACETONE. I was scrolling quickly through the
samples in "TRIM/LP" page and got the above error message.

I obtained this in the "SAMPLE" "TRIM/LOOP" --> "QFX" adding
"COMMAND" --> "SWELL"
it crased with teh progress bar showing 0%. I could here the QFX music playing
(as it does when you hit DO IT) until the crash. Then went to black screen with
message above.

RESOLUTION: rebooted, tried same QFX on same sample, no problem.


I've just sent these to [email protected]
so they can look at these for the next OS.

As indiicated above, I haven't seen any more of this, since that time. And of
course, those won't affect you in a live situation.

So give them a break.. the first time that you are reading about this, is the first
time that Akai is reading about this as well, I"m sure they'll be able to see what's
up. Now that the Live show is done, I'm going to see if I can find a set of reproducilble
steps for them, to help them narrow down an diagnosis.

When you say "live show" what does that consist of, because I have never done a live show I just use the mpc for home recording.

I think the machine got a bad reputation from some of the pre 1.51 OS's they released. It works quite well now though

If you were playing back a sequence at the same time you are scrolling thru the sample list the 4000 will crash and you get a blank screen.

I did send it in to them. I only wish I had in August, but their were too many late nights up
practicing that I didn't get chance to. But they did respond back that they recieved it
and that they have passed it on to R&D for analysis and the details in the report will
help them out.

I'm hoping to see if I can spend a little time reproducing it. A reproducible test case
is always easier to debug then one offs, but maybe the error messages will lead them
to correct portion of the code.

Akai's been quite supportive of my Bugs and RFE's that I've submitted. They generally
will give me a reply and what is the current functionality and whether they believe that they
can implement the RFE without affecting the current stability.

I bought mine the DAY that OS 1.6 came out, so all I can say is that it's been a pleasure to
work with. These are the only 3 issues that have shown since owning, they were both in a
2 day time period and haven't seen anything since. As I'm used to working with computers
and save constantly, I didn't loose anything when these happened. So it didn't really affect
me other then give me time to start the coffee pot again...

Actually the sequencer portion was in stopped. The sound that I was referring to,
was that when you are in "SAMPLE" "EDIT/TRIM" and then "QFX" and then select
a QFX parameter to apply to the Sample and resample it, when you select "Do IT",
you not only see it performing on the screen, but it plays the QFXed Sound when
it's doing it. This was the sound that I was hearing until the "Black Screen of Death".


I generally will leave the Sequencer playing, when I am in "MAIN" or "PROGRAM" or "Multi"
but turn it off in "SAMPLE" as it can make racket with all of those Sequences hitting
that one sample.
