no sound without using FULL LEVEL?

hey folks,
first of all, i'm a total greenhorn to MPC usage.
now i just got the MPC 500, and what makes me wonder is that i can't hear anything when full level isn't activated.

in fact you can hear your program veeery veery quiet when you turn the main volume to full.
if i hit the full level switch i hear my sounds, everything ok.

i think thats not how it's supposed to be?! is this a known issue? because i couldn't find anything about this here!

Because you're not hitting them hard enough.

Seriously, if its new the pads will be kind of stiff and with the Full Levell off it'll react by velocity of your fingers. So try hitting the thing hard as you can and you'll hear it at full level. Hit them gently and the volume will be lower. Sure at full level I can hit the pads with finger taps but velocity seems to be a little **** sometimes. So take it from me or take it in the ass, if thats not the problem then reinstall OS 1.31 from akaipro.com site search up mpc500.
