So yeah in my local store there is a Fantom XR rack so called synth sampler for 500 bucks. What is the general consensus here bout getting it. I mean to me i think its a nice ROMpler with some sampling cababilities... you know kinda a good rack unit i guess for stock sounds but i do love synths and was thinking bout getting a UltralNova instead... Its a hard choice as i do see its usefullness (the Fantom XR) and its a cheap oportunity, but still look at as a Rompler with a bit of a sampler attached and well i dunno??

I think price is good, however I wouldnt base my decision on it's sampling capabilities...chances are its very limited and painful to edit. but if you looking to expand your sounds this should be it...have you looked at NI Komplete ?

I can think of much better ways to spend $500.

If you like that keyboard's sounds I'd go for it. You can make full tracks in it, the sequencer is really intuitive and the sampling isn't all that bad either. Here's a song my friend's little brother made entirely with the Fantom, he's new to production so this is directly from the box recorded onto a zoom recorder then uploaded.

sweet thanks everyone. yeah as far as tools go it is allright, I downloaded manual and read it and got it today. I guess its another piece of gear that needs upgrading so yeah will use ebay for RAM and cards, though some look crap. Im not a fan of roland filters, but the architecture is flexible and high polyphony with nice piano sounds as well and as i dont use computer, thanks konc3pt, just the thing to have for extra normal sounds as oppossed to some synth. Same file format as my MPC so no extra steps and fits right into studio. So even though im not really impressed with it, I know im gonna use it alot for above reasons.
