I see this band use it on stage all the time. I can't figure out what it does exactly though?

yeah that's that unless they also made a pink mini kp.

if it's the kaossilator it's a synth, if it's a mini kp it's a multi effect.

I've seen them do some wicked type of stuff with it but I couldn't figure out what it was.

It's kind of weird these guys do all type of mixes but I haven't seen them pull out an MPC yet. They use Roland's SP stuff.

Not good. Just a gear whore. Although I can't say that I have a pink Kaossilator.

Yeah they do make mini KAOSs.

It's crazy seeing how the effects pads blew up.

I feel ancient now thinking about how I waited months for the KP1 to come out reading up on it then going to the store to get mine the day they first came in.

yeah but it's still a great relic... an effect is an effect... even after years of new technology we still have those standard ones we use.

Also, one thing to look at when it comes to the mini kp is that sure it's effects are ones they have in the kp3... but you got 3 buttons on the whole unit. that is not great when you have so many features on a machine that was designed to be used on the fly... also, it only has rca in and out... well midi is an amazing feature on the large models as well as the phono preamp like on the kp1 and kp2.

okay it has some good stuff, but I just dont like the button restrictions and how it's made of plastic ... especially when this is something you are going to want to gig with.

Korg should create a Kaoss Pad with downloadable updates... new effect banks etc. By the time you've hammered your favourite patches you get tired of the same old effects. The concept is spot on though.

In saying that, the iPad is probably the much better buy in this day and age.

while I can sort of agree (about the ipad) there is something about the simplicity of the kaoss pad that makes it a great piece of gear. okay for production I suppose it's not the most powerful tool... but for live sets, reliability.. and simplicity... I would just love seeing a mega kaoss pad with more effects included (ie: a 3 digit number with a larger jog wheel) and a bigger grid.

one other thing you can do is.. if you run the kaoss pad midi in to something like fl studio, you can set it up to the XY controller in FL to control limitless other pluggin parameters.

I also wanted a more studio based KP but I can't see it happening now. I think the iPad has filled that niche, plus taken the control of studio software up a notch.

the ipad with a firewire port and the capability to use our interfaces would be amazing... imagine taping that sucker onto the back of an ultralite hahaha.

There's so many audio accessories coming out for it so I think that will be/is possible.

There's a 16 page special in this months Sound On Sound about Apple's iOS and applications focused on audio production. I haven't got round to reading it yet though.

I heard the other one... the non apple one... I forget the name at the moment.. well I heard they had plans to make the OS open source. I dont know if this is accurate because it was a friend who told me this quite some time ago but the thing I found interesting about that is the fact that it opens the doors to developers... the more the merrier!

Android?

I heard Google are considering tightening up the OS because it has become fragmented and too open source. I wouldn't take that as gospel though... just another rumour that was floating about.
