Ensoniq ASR-10 help, for ASRonians.

Quick question -- does ASR-10 have a swing feature when you quantize your drums? I read somewhere that it has a "unique" swing on 16th.

Any people here who knows something about this?

question about asr w/ pro tools -
i'm using the asr as a midi controller for pro tools (someone in this thread told me it wasn't possible), and its working, but i was wondering how i can make it so it's not velocity sensitive. i'm using the xpand2 instrument plug-in. i tried making the midi instrument (on the asr) have no velocity sensitivity by raising the lowest to 127 but it's still not working. is there something i can do in pro tools?

just messing around with ya. my boy uses his EPS 16+ as a midi controller for Logic and i'm always yelling at him. like YO! why you gonna put wear and tear on a vintage piece of gear for no reason? just get a keyboard midi controller and tuck the EPS or ASR away until you want to use it.

Xpand in Pro Tools is great tho. I love the sounds in it. I sample them into my mpc tho. i'm using pro tools 7.4, so i'm not crazy about the midi sequencing.

I'm sure it's a setting in Xpand for the velocity, not a setting in the ASR. my boy had the same problem using the eps 16+ and battery in Logic. it was a velocity setting in battery that was the issue.

don't get me wrong, i love the feel of the keys on the asr-10. it makes a good midi controller, but a better sampler/sequencer.

i wouldn't use my asr-10, eps 16+ or eps as a midi controller. too much wear and tear on it to just be turning on and off and bangin on the keys, not using it for its sound, filters, effects, sampler, sequencer, etc...

you're better off getting a cheap midi controller for that and using your asr-10 the way it was meant to be used.

that's just my opinion tho.

oh i mean i'm using it as a sampler too.

No, it has a midi output for a reason so use it for whatever you want.

You didn't buy it just to use as a midi controller did you, now that would be misguided.

Yes it has some great sampling and FX features, there is no law which states you must use them every time you power up...

Paradoxically, I also agree with Nod but finances and available space may give you no option.

Just ensure that you get value for money out of the machine, one way or another.

no, i didn't even know it could be used as a midi controller until a few weeks ago. someone in this thread was persistently telling me that it couldnt be used as one

Anyone know a way to convert asr disk to sd card? i sold my asr a while back and tried chicken systems and got confused.

I currently use the MPC2000XL along with the ASR-10 and was thinking about getting a MPC60. I was wondering if there were any big differences between the MPC60 and the 2000XL that would make it a lot more difficult to use with the ASR-10?

I've been looking for ASR 10 few months.. lots of adds on ebay. What extras are needed? I will buy memory upgrade if the unit won't have it.. I think that is quite cheep. SCSI is needed if I want to **** with zips.. it's costly to buy of it's own. Output expander looked great and I want to mix my tracks on Pro tools so I got to have that.
How common is that purple or blue lcd screen? Can the old be replaced with new one? What else should I find out before buying? Thanks for ya all.

i use floppies cause i dont have scsi installed. i do have a card reader, i bought it cause i thought i had scsi. tell me if you want to buy it

i mix my music on pro tools and i dont have the output expander. its possible, but it'd definitely be better to get the expander. i just track it out one track at a time

downstairs at my church there is a baby grand piano. now for the last couple of years, i've noticed a keyboard sitting on top of it covered up. I also noticed it hasn't been used. the cover had a lot of dust all over it. so a couple of days ago when i was there, something told me to look at the keyboard to see what it was... I asked the pastor what was the story with that that keyboard. He told me they weren't going to use it anymore and didn't even know if still worked. he told me if i wanted to take it to test to see if works and if it does, i can have it.....


yes, it was an ASR-10.

got it for free. The only thing that i can tell that is wrong with it is it has the original yellow LED display. a couple of characters doesn't work. The top C (last key) needs to be replaced and it does not have the scsi board. it had the OS floppy disk still in the drive. and it does not have the output expander. other than that, it works. it has 8 mb ram.

anyone know where i can get the output expander??? searched ebay already and saw two auctions that ended last month. damn!!!!

or the scsi board?
