vinyl 'stop' effect using a DAW

Does anyone have any ideas in how to achieve the effect of hitting the stop button on record deck using a DAW?

I hear this used on a lot of current chart/dance songs.

Also, how do you go about replicating scratch style effects using a DAW? i know these sound really mechanical and nothing like proper scratching, but hey, i'm just wondering.

Ableton Live8, Logic 9, Reason 5, -and i've got Record 1.5 too, but haven''t used that yet

Logic 9 Does it pretty well! In the properties box to the left of your audio, you can click "Fade" to turn that into "Slow Down." Then just set the time amount, and curve if u want.

In pt it can be done with vari fi.
With any daw that accepts vst's you can use Sugarbytes Artillery; this one can also work in PT using FX Pansion's vst2rtas wrapper.
It does exactly what you hear in pop records in the radio. Record stop, glitching the vocals and a lot of crazy shit.

in Pro Tools use Vari-Fi. it's the best!

just use tapestop (free vst) and automate to your liking!

You can use the warping in Ableton if you set the warp mode to "repitch" and then automate the tempo at the point you want the effect in the arrange window. Drag it down to zero to stop and go from zero back up to give a vinyl starting effect.
