MPC1000 or MPD

hello guys this is my first post here and my english is not so verry good so i hope u can understand me


ok so i have been using reason for some time im curiantly using reason 5 with a midikeyboard and i love it
but working with samples in reason takes alot of time setting evreything up i mean i need 3 different programs to chop up a sample make it wav etc etc

so i was thinking to improve my setup a bit


what i wanna do is
buy a mpc or mpd with a turbtable for a better workflow
so im wondering what would be best for me

with a mpc u can chop up samples from a lp and load them directly into ur mpc but can a mpd do to same?or do i still need other software to chop up the samples?

what i have been told that the mpd+daw is more powerfull then a mpc
and alot cheaper

if i hook up a mpd+ turbtable to my pc will i get the same workflow as a normal mpc but the only difference is it records it into reason instead of directly in the mpc itself, right? or am i missing somthing?

i hope someone here can help me out

im thinking about buying AKAI MPD32 USB/MIDI pad controller or saving more money to buy a mpc1000

i used to use FL with an MPD. But i find the MPC is better, but thats just my opinion, other may say different.

if you get an mpd and a turntable, you will need to get a soundcard for recording to your pc. if you get an mpc and turntable you will also have to get a soundcard unless you do the sampling the output method.

with the mpc you can make beats without even turning your computer on. until you need to get the finished beat to your pc.

iv never used it, but im sure you can use an mpc as a midi controller too, so you could use an mpc to trigger stuff in your daw too, if you wanted to. expensive midi controller, but you will have the option of both

i guess you have to ask yourself if you want to use hardware or software. Both will reach the same destiantion in the end.....decide which workflow fits you best.

yeah, statixx got some good vids, check them out.

The main difference is your sequencer. IF you find it easier to sequence your beats on a computer screen, then then the MPD is the way to go. If you want to record, chop, and sequance on the MPC then thats the way to go...

Personally, I think it's easier to chop in recycle and start a beat in reason....I've used Reason 4 and 5 for the past 3 years and gotten a steady workflow out of it...and even started reducing my chop count. I also bought a MPC 1000 about 5 months ago and love it. IMO it takes me longer to chop something on the MPC than Reason...however, I also feel like I generate better ideas on my chops and song structure while chopping on the MPC. I bought the MPC-Tutor's tutorial on using the MPC with Reason and also read the chapter in the beat making mpco 1000 tutorial where you can take your recylce file and load it on the MPC.

If you already have a midi keyboard, then I'm sure it has most of the fucntions an MPD would have...never messed with one though. So If I were you I'd go with a MPC1000 and get the JJOS2X...That way you still have your midi keyboard to use with your DAW or even midi slave your MPC1000 with the DAW while still having the option of using your MPC as your master for your sequence.

In the end though, obvioulsy not what you want to hear but it comes down to your personal prefrence on work flow. I got tired of making my beats with a mouse and or midi keyboard and wanted to take it back and use pads...sure it slowed my workflow down but I like how my beats are coming out.

running a mpc 1k with jjos midi'd up to reason 5 is a beastly little set up for the overall price, get the 1k sample and chop in that and use reason like a sound module, you'll thank me later.

you do know that Reason 5 has direct sampling........right...!?

i think i will go for the mpd first not because i prefer it over the mpc, but because its alot cheaper
and since i will have to buy a turntable and a soundcard aswell its gonna its gonna cost alot of money for me

anyway...
do u guys think a belt drived turntable is good enough for my goals? i wont be doing much scratching so?
and tbh i have no clue about soundcards i was thinkin about a external card in the price range of 150+- or cheaper if a more expensive card aint realy needed im still using my crapy sound card on my motherboard so i gues i realy need somthing better:P
anywayi would realy apericiate it if someone can point me in the right direction of what to buy
or maybe link me something if u want too, that would be awesome !

Aslong as your not planning on doing any scratching then your fine with a belt drive...

I'm not an expert in the sound card area...but I have been using a Tascam US122L for a few years now and its been great...of course I use it for the fantom power to also record vocals so you may not need that but its only going for $100 now...very simple plug and play device to record your samples on a PC/Mac

again, I'm no expert engineer...just a guy who DJ's and is into making beats so I cant give you the best advice. The only pre-amp's i really know about are the DJ ones....I started off with a numark one which could workout for you.

If all your doing is recording your samples from the turntable to your sequencer than you wont need anything fancy. I would shop around on craigslist for a used mixer first.

but since your pre-amp is not detrimental to your setup, I'd shop used first and test your luck there....that way if you save some extra money, you would re-consider the MPC1000

i used reason for a long time , i've bought a MPC1k since one month and i really love it. i've tried MPD at a friend's place but pads are really cheap IMO. If u want to sample some lp's you can do it directly into mpc and chop it quicker than with recycle , and its easier than use Sound Forge (for example) plus recycle to slice and finally put it into reason.

IMO when u try a MPC u can only love it , pads are just awesome
