What is best for my needs?

Hi, I'm new here.

Anyway I currently am software based. I started on FL, went to Maschine, sold Maschine(dumb) and am back on FL. I like FL and do good with it but it is becoming stale. I feel like I'm stuck in its workflow and it just has too much for me. I keep it simpler and don't need all the hoopla. So I want some advice and I have a few questions. I'm not trying to make this a "What is better" thread but a thread to see what you think is better for MY needs.

I'm stuck between the XL and 3000. I don't need all sorts of features but just need to get the job done. What I want to know is:

1. Does the 3000 have the spread across 16 pads feature?

2. Am I correct in believing that 3000s can't have CF card readers?

3. Can I MIDI a keyboard to either and play samples on it? Not chromatically, but like Pad1 on this key, Pad2 on this key etc..

4.Can you save the tracks you make on CF or zip and import the beat into the computer or is tracking out the only way?

5.Why does everyone complain about zip disks? I mean if you have an external reader I could just hook it to my laptop and save the beat files, get drums etc.. of my computer right? You could even just use 1 disk really and just take drums and beat files back and forth right?

we are both in the same boat (except im saving FOR maschine,its a bad ass pad controller compared to my MPD26,should have kept it my man lol) but from what i was told, it was either the 1000 with the jjOS or a 2kXL maxed out,considering vintage is best and the 5k has TONS of issues,but keep asking and waiting fo replys,im sure someone will be a nice as they were to me in giving out some good info,you can check my post here for some info: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=144381

Well, no. It's just that your questions have been asked before, they have also been answered many times.

The basic question - "What is best for my needs?" - only you can answer that. If you want simple and easy workflow, your best option is 2500 with JJ OS-XL, or 1000 with JJ OS2XL. JJ OS has lots of options, you just don't have to use them all. If I were you, I would only consider the older models when I knew exactly what to expect of them.

1. yes
2. no, you can install CF readers in every mpc model
3. yes you can
4. on the older mpc models you must track out which is fine... but the newer ones (the 2500 for example) can record while playing.
5. zips are great... until they screw up. they have a bad issue known as the click of death. it's the iomega version of the blue screen.

honestly, if you are coming from FL studio, I suggest from the two models you are looking at that you grab the 2000xl. it has more features... chopping samples looks similar to the wave traveler in fl... but is set up differently obviously. The other reason I suggest the 2000xl is because it's cheaper, easier and cheaper to upgrade, and easy to sell... while the 3000 is more expensive and hard to get back what you invested if you need to do a bunch of repairs. The other thing is, remember the 3000 is text based on the screen... you chop samples by adjusting numbers and listening... there is no waveform display like on the 2000xl. It's hard to say no to that 3000 though haha.

Ok thanks guys. I actually found a maxed out XL on ebay for 600 and just ordered it this morning. It was too good to pass up. It looks like I will be sticking around here now that I got an MP coming. Hope to have some good convos.

Each time I hear "tons" of problems on the 5k I gotta laugh. I have 4 , and Not 1 issue.

Here's my advice... forget FL, maschine if u dont like them, for your first mpc dont go xl or 3000


If you only have exp with FL, maschine... its almost 2012, go for a 1000 or a 2500, trust me on this one, u dont want your workflow to take a step backwards

I already got the XL. Its cool, definitely different but it should be cool once I get used to it. And I use to have a Maschine, they are dope.

600 for an XL??
