Sound test: s1100 vs 2500 vs 2000xl vs 1000 vs s6000

im gonna type before i get the results lol.

all of them sounded pretty much exactly like the original except sample3 in the beginning, which wasnt bad anyway, just slightly different.

Damn I know this tread is mad old but I had to say something...

Number 3 (S1100) was the only I noticed any difference with and the difference was slight.
But right now I'm on my internet PC with wack speakers, I'll try this again later on the studio monitors.
BTW, I once owed a MPC 1000 and a S-6000. I never compared them in this way. I recall liking them both and would characterize there sound as just being the classic "puncy akai" sound.

nice to link this to people who reference the somehow "magic" or "terrible" sound of some of these samplers

however if we really wanted a complete, conclusive test you'd do the same thing but include a test of the pitching algorithms

1- sample from sampler played normal
2- sample from sampler played at =-3, 6, 9, and 12 semitones

the mpc 3000 and the s-3000 are their own technology, before the mpc 2000/2000xl, s-2000, 3000xl stuff but after the s-1000 series stuff.
the s-6000 technology comes after all of this and that's probably why no one can tell the difference between the s-6000 & mpc 1000/2500.

true what you said about the pitching algorithms, when I owned an s-6000 i noticed you could pitch samples waaaaaaaaay
down without any noticeable aliasing. I felt like it sounded good, sometimes too good. this sampler will never be known for "grit".

ahh, ok, so s-3000 and mpc3000 correspond. too bad s-3000 wasn't in the mix there.

i don't like to pitch anything down further than 5-7 semitones in the MPC1000, when you can really start hearing the grime.

up i feel ok going +12, which is really the highest i will go

i think the s6000 caught a little more "pluck" on the bass guitar than the s1100. could be my sound system being slightly bias.
