MPC 4000 Master Logic Pro 8 slave - Perfect sync actually po

hey guys, i currently have my mpc 4000 set up with logic pro 8 and use a focusrite as my midi interface.
I do all my sequencing on the mpc and have it set up so i can trigger logic synths using my midi keyboard and record and sequence all on the mpc but just use logic for effects, synths etc etc

I also have my my mpc slaved using midi time code to my production partners set up and he uses cubase on a mac so it makes the work flow faster (that way we can work on the same sequence at the same time on separate set ups) and when i hit play or stop on the mpc it triggers cubase all in perfect sync without a glitch.

I am currently trying to also have set up on top of all that is to have Logic play in sync with the mpc, the reason why this would be perfect is because using effectrix and sound toys effects they all are triggered based on the playback and bpm in logic.

I have tried for days on end researching every forum or youtube video to have this set up, the closest i have come to having this working is by using midi machine control from the mpc which plays logic back but logic plays around half a second late than the mpc. i have tried messing with the settings in logic but still no luck ( i tried all the setting changes recommended on other forums) and i have both frame rates matching.

I also came close using midi time code which plays perfectly on time but it takes 2 bars to trigger logic and to play on time with the mpc. If anyone out there has worked there way around this and has there mpc as the master and logic as the slave your help be much appreciated, i would be happy to return in the favor in samples, drums or even $ ( that is how much i really i need to have this set up)

It is a must that i have the MPC as the master and not the slave as the mpc is the main workstation with all of my equipment.

Really hoping to hear from someone with a similar set up!

It's not going to happen with Logic Studio 8 as slave and the MPC as master.

Logic Studio 8 will not slave to the MPC, but will operate as master.

It's been discussed here many times before.

i have read that as well but i have spent the last two days messing it and just now i actually got logic to slave to the mpc so it is possible.

when i hit play on the mpc the metronome from logic clicks away on the 2nd click of the metronome and is locked in perfect timing. only problem is now when i hit play on the mpc all the sounds from logic as well as the mpc cut out for a split second but everything is in perfect sync. this only happens at the very beginning but is really annoying.

Insert one bar at the beginning of your mpc sequence similar to what is done on PT and it should help. Generally like clint said logic is the master and the mpc is the slave. But if you got it to work good for you.

I generally make a sequence on the mpc then set the mpc to slave and record the midi into logic and work from there.

nice! i am going to try keep messing with it today. only problem with inserting one bar is since i do all my sequencing on the mpc and then tracking out to pro tools having one bar at the beginning of the mpc sequence every time i go to hit play while i am working on a track it will have that 1 bar there which will get quiet annoying. i am so close to getting it to work perfectly. i will keep you posted on how i go today..

The disadvantage to this is the 4k has 960 resolution sequencer and as far as I know, logic operates at 480 with external midi, though if it's all quantised anyhow, no bother!

Not with midi clock it isn't.

Logic Pro 8 will slave to midi timecode but not to midi clock. Midi timecode doesn't lock to tempo which makes it pretty useless in most situations.

I should have made the distinction clear.

Don't know about anyone else but i've never trusted midi syncing with any of the DAWs, it's never sample accurate on my system when printing, incurring phase shifts from track to track. I always just line things up manually, using the same click or pop with lots of transient detail at the start of each track. Such is life.

thats strange because using midi time code i actually have it locked up perfectly with both metronomes phasing. i do have to adjust the logic tempo to the tempo on the mpc but they do lock perfectly.

only issue is that as soon as i hit play on the mpc and on the 2nd click when logic plays all the sounds from the mpc including midi from logic cuts out for a split second. its unbearable obviously because every time you hit play on a sequence you are creating every sound on every track cuts out for a few seconds.

its pretty frustrating hearing that in a big studio creating in front of writers, artists etc etc sigh

Lucky you or I need a new midi interface, is it Logic 9 you're using? On my system it's erratic and off by a sample or two. I've always had gremlins when attempting to work like this also.

that sucks! im using logic 8. does the sound from logic cut out for a second when you hit play on the mpc and logic syncs?
