Oh God why me!

500 samples lost forever.

I had everything on my disk Movie samples, Classic old hard to find like 1920's sounds, s-ton of instruments, S-loads of drums I put serious work into morphing and customizing the sounds on. Brought a zipdrive just to back everything up on my computer and it destroyed my disk. I didn't even use this disk in the drive when I found out it was busted I was careful not to but somehow it got infected. Probably when I put the zip from the zipdrive and popped it into the MPC (ONCE!) before realizing it was the drive and not the disk. I brought some new zips to check and see if it was the disk or the drive. It's the disk. I'm hurting bad. I got my gear up to go back into it but d@mn the passion is lost for the moment. Reminded me of the time the harddrive on my DPS12 went bad and I lost like 60 songs I made.

Not just with a sampler I mean like real instruments playing. Just trying to vent I know some of you have been here before. Going to try to get back at it. "Consequences will never be the same!" Almost makes me want to look at getting a Mashine but the MPC is my homegirl I can't leave her we've been through too much together. Can't believe Zips are this sh*tty. I have busted A:/ disk with no sleeve and no slider that still went hard, and scratch up CD's that look like they belong to Edward scissor hands and they still go hard. But damn one drive that was bad killed all my zip after one incident. WTF!

^ Thats not a solution. No piece of gear can substitue the need for adequate file management. Pretty much everything we have is backed up on multiple sources. Hard drives are cheap these days. A backup of a backup is the way to go.

And for the record Zips are like the worst thing ever created. Anyone who has ever used one (myself included) has been ROYALLY f*cked over by one.

yeah zips are terrible simply because they hold so much data... so when one **** up it's a total punch in the balls.

I suggest putting in a CF reader because not only can they hold more data then zips, they are faster, quieter, and they dont mess up like zips. the best part is, you buy yourself a pile of them and make copies... or back up the card into a folder on your computer.

I'm gonna take my old zips down the local clay pigeon shooting range to say a final goodbye.

That's pretty logical but it's a different story when the device you purchased to back up your files on in the first place is corrupted. That's how I got into this mess.

Anyone out there still working with zip drives (internal or external) should replace them with something more reliable.

You owe it to yourself and your studio.

Visit scsicardreaders.com and catch a bad case of the ssd's (solid state drives).

Right now I got my zip drive daisy chained to a cf reader. Transfer your best sounds/beats/sequences to the cf card, then eventually take the zip out the mix. That's the best way to go.

ive tried backing up my zips only to lose more of my stuff. same problem as 16 levels here. i have a usb zip drive and it seems MAC doesnt like MPC formatted disks. ive talked to JD from scsiforsamplers about this. it ends up adding certain files, i think finder files to the disks. the MPC read those files and somehow bugs them out. either they be .SEQ, .PGM or .SND. right now im going through all my zip disks and changing the names to a max of 8 CHARACTERS. then copy them onto my mac and then onto a cf-card. hopefully that will do so i dont lose another masterpiece.

yeah I am not 100% on this, but I suspect on a pc you can fix that issue by deleting those files.

If all else fails, at least track your sounds out so you've got something to piece back together.
