Was thinking of picking up the S950 to add to my arsenal, but I was wondering how anyone else who uses this combo goes about it? Do you sample sounds into the S950 to get 12-bit crunch and then sample them from their to the 1000 through the stereo sample in? Or, would you store the sounds in the S950, and then use the midi capabilties of the 1000 to transmit the sequences so that the S950 plays the sounds in the required sequence?

You could sample back into ur 1k if u wanted, but your better leaving your samples in the 950. It will sound better. This is from what i hear. I too am thinkin about gettin a 12bit sampler for my arsenal. if you do endin gettin it pm me and let me know what you think of it. Oh yea and to answer ur 2nd question yes u would jus trigger it via midi, and then run ur outs for the 950, and 1k into a mixer.

Hey Yo,

I use a 2000xl with a s950 and I use midi, if you sample the samples from the S950 to the 1000 it will resample it back to 16bit and therefore your lose some of the grime. For the prices on Ebay you should grab one its well worth it, the tone sound on the disk free with it is worth the money alone.

Peace

I would honestly like to use a sp1200, and see if I like that.

I don't think it makes sense that resampling back to 16bit would lose some of the grime. It would probably add more grime, just not the right kind. Once that shi** gets converted to 12bit, information is lost, and thats what makes it dirty. Resampling back cannot magically put the information back in.

(If it did, you could compress files as much as you wanted just by sampling down to 1-bit, then resampling up right!)

ps. I still agree it would be better to play the 950 samples thru the 950, just to get the original old school sound.

Yeah, this is right actually. You could sample the stuff into the MPC for use when the 950 isn't available but if at all possible it'd be better to just use the 1k to trigger the samples in the 950 via MIDI.

I dont understand that sentence...
You trigger the s950 with the 1000. The only outs you need are from the s950, since the 1000 is only there for triggering?? or am i wrong with this one?
