Yo, whats up my fellow mpcians!! yo like 2 wekks ago i was tappin on the pads of my mpc, and noticed upon impact of each strike, that
the light on the screen blinked slightly. The more and more i programmed the more it blinked, until finally, the light gave out!!! i can still see the info on the screen , but without the illumination. (kind of like a calculator). has this happend to any of you cats?........ and if yes how do i fix it and how much will it cost me? thanks, peace and love.

Look at http://www.backlights.co.uk/
There must be people in the US offering this service too.

However, if the light was switching off when you tapped the pads & has now switched off completely it is more likely some connection needs fixing rather than the light itself needs replacing.[/url]

You can call AKAI for the nearest recognized service spot near you.
However, there seem to be alot of people who know how to fix the LCDs.
Not sure if the backlight is a separate component, but I've had cats price the replacement LCD, I'm assuming w/ the backlight intact, with instalation for $225. I think like $175 for the part, the rest on labor. But you could probably do better than that. Worse comes too it, you could call FORAD.COM. Those are the MPC customization team out of California. They got a pretty standard price on the LCD replacement, maybe cheaper for just the backlight. You would spend like $25 both ways for shipping if you don't mind waiting a week on both trips.

We all mourn the loss of your backlight. Be gentle...
it's made in Asia..

I think the LCD & the backlight are separate items. Looking at that backlights.co.uk site, they even sell backlights for equipment that doesn't come with a backlit LCD. Also, I've seen that same material those backlights are made from in stores that sell model kits.

Is your warrantee still good? If not, **** it, order a schematic and open that beeach up. But yo, chances are, there's someone who knows what they are doing near you. This is a standard thing that shouldn't cost alot. Seems to everyone that it's just the light. The repairman can't screw you if they think you know what your talking about, and that it's a short or just the backlight in general. Definately call akai. they have a home office in TX where they like, speak english and shit.

Thats been happening to mine for about 5 months now. If i turn on the MP and the light dont come on....i got to keep hittin the screen untill it comes on. If you find some way to fix that...make sure you hit me up and tell me that. That shit is annoying.

Ambush...you shoulda bought my 2000!
But, you ain't wanna meet me at a mutual location.
You wanted me to go to like East New York
or some Sh!t and walk into a barber shop with my
MPC so you could buy it. And your name is 'Ambush'.
I'm NY dun, just leery of the set-up, hahah!
Nah for real doe, I know you couldn't really leave the shop like that.
I got much more than you were willing to pay anyway.

So, How cheap is this guys machine that you are willing to take that
risk that it might be dead?

That's funny. Good Laugh for real. "your name is AMBUSH" haha!!
Sounds like it could be a crime scene setup for a movie or something.

I dont know you man! Im from South Carolina. I have never lived in NY and have not been there in over 15yrs.

I had no idea you were selling your MPC. But I bought it on Saturday and the only thing wrong with it is the screen.

EPRelectronics is the only company with it in stock and the cheapest. Im getting 2 screens just in case. One of them im going to change the backlight to orange in color.

But yeah Ambush has been my callsign since 1992 man. I know of DJ Ambush in NYC. He is nice with them blends and cool cat. I have talked with him a couple of times.

But im DJ Ambush (studio DJ/Producer) in South Carolina

Peace

Oooooh, my bad homie. He's right, I never had contact with him. Apparantly there is also another Ambush, from Brooklyn, who also seems to cut hair and says he quote "is starting a label", but doesn't have 900 dollars for an MPC. I had it twisted; Wrong Ambush. So, any progress w/ the auction you were pondering?
