Got some questions and problems on the 1000

Whats up guys,

So ive been an mpc1000 user for about a year now and I love it. Workflow, sequencing, the whole shabang. Ive upgraded the ram to the 256mb and it has given me about 12 minutes or so of stereo sampling time. The next upgrade im thinking about doing is the internal hard drive.

How does the storage on it work?
Does everything get put into alphabetical order? or do i have to upload the samples onto my mac every time, format it, and reupload them back onto the hard drive just as you would with the regular compact flash cards?

Any tips and pointers about the hard drive would be much appreciated


Also, ive ran into a problem in the past 2 weeks.

The left and down arrow keys seem to have jammed. I have press down hard (and i mean really push on that shit) for it to move. Is this something I can fix myself? if So how or where can i get it fixed.

File structure remains the same whether on on memory card or hard disk...when you first install the disk you wanna format it using the mpc to make sure it's liking it from that point instead of saving to cf card you select hard disk and thats it.

as for your arrow keys not working properly your tact switches are going out and it's time to replace them. you can look up the parts at mpcstuff.com or vst akai service. is it something you can do yourself. that depends how good your soldering skills are and if you're comfortable taking your mpc apart to get under the hood

vst akai service can fix it, so can forat, not sure if mpcstuff.com fixes mpcs or maybe even forum member if you know anybody trusthworthy

now for the tact switches, do i need to replace it with one for all 4 or does each arrow need its own tact switch?

Hi, I'm a new member here, and I use a MPC 1000. So far I've been recording the music from my school's turntable to my computer, then chop that sample up in the mpc. And I've been finding music from youtube, download that and chop it up in Audacity, and chop it up on my mpc 1000.

Well, now I have my own turntable. It's the Technics SL-1300 with a Direct Drive Automatic Player System. The problem is that I've been trying to record the music from the turntable to directly into my mpc 1000. And the sounds always come off really fuzzy and there's lot of background noise in the music. I've been talking to some people, and they said that I need a mixer.

However, is there a way to directly record from the turntable to the mpc 1000 without a mixer?

no!

if you don´t want to use a mixer you will at least need a phono preamp.
