Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

Saw this up for sale on gumtree, emailed them twice but had no reply and has been almost a week now :x

Up for £400 and looks pretty tidy. Looks like its in a pawn shop. Thinking its either sold (they should still reply to my emails though :? ) or they don't check their emails very often, so if anyone lives in London and happens to recognise the shop or passes a shop that looks similar then you could be on to a winner.

Just to make clear:
I'M NOT SELLING THIS, I WANT IT!

Be careful with gumtree. There are regular sales of luxury synths such as jupiter 8's and ems synthi's for 'too good to be true' prices. There is a simple reason for this, they are scams. If you get a reply it usually turns into some story or another.

Why would anyone sell something for about half or maybe a quater of its real value when it is so easy to find out the current value of an item on the net. Also, if they posted the ad, they must have net access. We may think the seller is stupid, but these scams work on principles along the lines of greed. In our hope to obtain something for nothing we get burnt fingers

Well I got my 4000 cheap but it wasn't a scam.

If it looks to good to be true make some enquiries of the seller.

Pick up is the only option worth considering, but take precautions.

Yo Clint, I went through the same when I got my 4k. I call the guy off craigslist and he said he wanted $1150. I didn't have all the cash so he turned me down. 2 days later he called and said he'd take the $800 I had!?!?!? Dude lived in a hella shady ass area so I took my peice with me but he was hella cool and his chick was fine as fvck! Made me some sweet tea and everything! 8) He just needed the money to pay rent...

Yeah , it sucks when you know the seller is desperate.

I'd rather sell my right foot than sell my MPC4000.

Sounds like you got a great deal there!!

Almost the exact same thing happened to me back in November, except the original Craigslist post had the 4000 at $800. I thought I was hallucinating...I figured probably no 8 outs, which there weren't. But even after talking to the dude it just felt suspect given the price. Even when I rolled up to his spot I wasn't sure as he waved to me from his window cause the curtain was opened like 2 inches. Turned out he couldn't open the curtain more cause he was holding a baby. His girl got home just as we were closing the deal, and looked happy as hell to see money in, 4000 out. You know come to think of it over 95% of my dealings in hip hop and gear with strangers have been totally positive, which is dope because this era of hip hop going on now sure ain't about community and culture.

konc3pt that's sick you got a 1000 for a bill. I lived in the Bay for mad years, there's a lot of good used gear out there.
