Or is it possible to trigger sounds from the s950 with the 1000 and sequence it in the 1000 without resampling?

bingo!
sample into the 950. sequence in the mpc. it's the way of the masters.

Jesus fu*king h Christ, have you even read the manual on your MPC or S-950? They both clearly state on how to connect a midi device up, you don't even have to read anything cos you have pretty diagrams that show you how.
Ever tried using your brain or searching google? It's not too hard you know

^^Or how about the step by step instructions I posted earlier in this thread.

jonestown massacre wrote:MIDI on the MPC with an s950 is simple.

Just plug a midi cable from the in to the out on each unit (MPC=In 1,Out A: S950 In, Out...2 cables).

In the MPC, set track (x) to:

midi:1A-Device01

instead of

drum(1,2,3,4):off (pgm name)

and record a sequence. All sampling, editing, etc. for s950 will be done on the s950 (and vice versa).

You can assign samples to the 8 outs on the s950 and same with the 6 assignable outs on the 1000. That makes the most sense. 14+ outputs to record out of, route to effects or otherwise process.

With this setup, you could also run the samples back into the mpc out of 2 of the 8 outs on the s950 and still maintain this config too, so you get the best of both scenarios. (Except to sample into the 1000, you will have to triggers the samples on the s950 :x ).

If you got the s950 for its sound, USE IT for its sound, 'na mean?

Final advice, read this:

yes, but it's more like.. it's not clear to me if the audio from the s950 is really transferred to my mpc. I know midi doesnt transport audio..thats obvious, but is it ported into my mpc so i can use it in that sequencer and when I start continuing the beat at an another time will it still be in without consoling the s950

No the audio is not automatically 'transferred' to the MPC.

If you want to 'transfer' the sound to the MPC, you have to use the MPC as a sampler. Have you ever sampled anything?

What people are saying is that sampling a sampler is redundant, and in a way defeating the purpose. so instead, you can just use the MPC to send midi to trigger the s950, the way it's meant to be used.
And yes, you will have to have the s950 on and loaded and connected properly if you want to use it again.

The s950 is not some magic filter box that suddenly makes the sound better. It's a different sampler than an mpc and will therefore yield different results.

Try it.

exactly... but at the same time it's a magic filter box that makes the sound better.

Thanks,

yes ive sampled before. On the 1k.
And since i've mastered the 1k i dont want to sequence on the s950. I want to use the sound of the s950 for my drums and bass. And since i use a lot of samples in one project, its impossible to do it on the s950 due to its limited memory.

You see, i like the working method on the mpc1000 and im not planning to work on the s950 in a sequencing way. I want to sample the sound into the s950 and then into the 1000.

I asked specific how to use the s950 just as a filter(first sample into the s950, not just a sample through fase) and i got this answer:

'and record a sequence. All sampling, editing, etc. for s950 will be done on the s950 (and vice versa).'

Thats not what i want. I dont want to do all the work in the s950 with the mpc1000 working as a midi device to just trigger. I dont wanna work on a small screen like the s950.

sell that s950 quick! its sequencer sucks

well i just got a s950, and i know how it will use me.

sample drums into it. mono, trigger using 2000xl.

run audio through, sample on 2000xl.

resample 2000xl samples.

get my head around the individual outs, trigger using 2000xl.

funk with the VCF.

sample sine wave onto 2000xl.

generally get to know the machine, think of new ways to use it in my set up. use the manual, etc.

failing that i'll just use the clock-radio feature.
By NavNek Wed Jun 15, 2011 2:21 pm
How you mean 'trigger using 2000xl' if you resample it on the 2000xl??

Maybe im stupid but i dont get your method, it's not elaborate

Can u specify that for me??

thanks for the reply anyway!

i was not providing a step by step process. i was merely demonstrating the many ways i can use it in my set up.

i fail to understand why you are having difficulties in being able to achieve what you require.

Ok,

I use an mpc1000.
I recently bought the s950. I only want to use it for its sound. Not intended to make whole tracks on it.
First when i bought it i thought. I just sample in the s950. then sample from the s950 into the mpc1000.
Ive heard this is not a clean method to keep the sound in check. So now im appealing to other methods, but i dont know how.

?

i think you have let this piece of information utterly baffle you and create a problem where there isn't one. it's just sampling (or more importantly your approach to it and understanding of it).

there are 2 basic options:

sample on s950 then sample onto 1000.

sample on s950 then use the 1000 to trigger it.

and:

sample s950 into DAW, save as wav, transfer data to 1000.

er, i can't think of any others.

Dude, I gave you complete instructions. Do you need someone to hold your hand while you plug midi cables into the gear you spent money on?

All I said was that YOU COULD resample from the S950 to the 1000 (or vice versa). Resampling the S950 is redundant and a waste of time. You use the MPC1000 sequencer section to control the S950, whether or not you resample, via MIDI

You are obviously are too slow to read the Akai manuals (which has diagrams for you) or the MIDI Manual, which I provided a link to. READ THE **** MANUALS, STOP LOOKING FOR HANDOUTS AND FURTHER EXPLANATIONS ON STRAIGHTFORWARD INSTRUCTIONS. Did you even try what I told you to do before responding with a "yes, but"?
