It can be anything really... imo its pointless to speculate. Im sure we're gonna see that individual track length because enough users requested it. Im sure we're gonna see some sort of audio streaming capability, because the competition (mv8000) has it and thats a big selling feature for many and many users really want it. AKSYS will probably get a facelift aswell...

chaps,
always on the lookout for handy hints....
could you tell me how the indvidual track length feature
and looping at different lengths works?
I had a qy700 and found the linear song track running alongside the sequence tracks brilliant.
The sequence tracks however, made no sense to me at all, the yamaha making up the rules as it went along.
If i made one 4 bar loop in a 8 bar pattern, it kept playing!
i had to insert a rest to have it play only once.
It made more sense to me, and i every other sequencer I've used,
to create the loop, then paste or copy it a specified number of times.
(also, no loop record feature on the linear tracks. no quantize during record on the loop tracks, etc etc etc)
I don't want to sound like an ignorant old git, but i cant remember the
last time i heard a track with elements playing in different time sigs.
although i know there are musicians that do, i dont rekon they'd choose the MPC as their creative tool.
Bitching aside, I'm just a bit scared (and not afaraid to admit it), that
after finding the qy700 to be a pig to create music on, the same thing could end up confusing the hell out me on the MPC.
After working in the biz for 20 years and being disappointed with the Yamaha, I'll need a lot of convincing to switch to an OS that had this feature.

They ask are you ever going to fall off, NO!!!!! Time difference/different time zone I`m in Japan which is why I post late or earlier we are a day ahead of the States. MAD T are you selling meth? Cuz I`m not buying Crack dealer!!!!! **** is bad for your brains since I have seen some crazy mofos in Hawaii on that **** for real!!! :D

Just joking ET I mean MT I had a very informative source in front of me when I typed out my post as a reference so my post was long. Read and type to better explain the concepts of digital audio editing.

Don`t take too many quotes from hip hop songs too seriously I basically equate the MPC with Hip hop so I am what I am and what I am is a Hip Hop beats, rhymes, and life.

But like I say before Sean on DPS board talked of big, unexpected, features that Akai had never announced and probably were not going to impliement til the competition step to them to raise the bar. To me the MPC families are basicially the same with the exceptions of increase in number of tracks, sequences, editing fields, faster processing, and bit rates and resoultions. A full sampler, hard disk drive, 960 ppq, and a strongarm intel chip the 4K is the first. I just guess that with the updates we been having that Sean`s announce (which he hasn`t clarified totally) may be going towards digital audio editing. The tools are there just a matter of programming.

Anyway I may be totally wrong but it is a good strategy to draw Sean out and have him either deny it which show Akai is going to going for possibly new midi features ( Individual track features) or say no comment ( which tells me I may have hit it on the button).

Maybe someone else can guess where Akai`s development is heading for the 4K this Oct. :D

I was more referring to the fact that you type crazy dense messages. You must type really fast.

What you describe here is EXACTLY what we are asking for with the Individual
Track per length.

1) the request shows that we want to be able to turn this feature on and off. Their are
reasons why you would want the 4 bar loop to play in the 1st 4 bars of an 8bar loop only,
but there are also reasons why you would want it to repeat.

2). Copying and pasting wastes notes. There's a limited amount of notes that the
MPC will hold.

3). The ability to have seperate tracklengths can provide a bunch of variety in a track.

For example you can have 1 track looping 3 bars and the other looping 13 bars. It will
be 39 bars until these 2 loops repeat each other. That's with just 2 Tracks with different
lenghts. Now throw in the ability to have 128 Tracks all with different lengths.
Can we say NOODLE :) It could be quite sometime until any of these repeat themselves.

If you just copy and paste all the bars out to 1 big loop that are all the same length, then
it WILL sound more static.
The individual Track Length is is a great feature for Ambient music, but can be benefited
from all styles (Electro, Techno, Hip Hop, Jazz,House, etc... ).

Reptition is good, but tooo much repition is NOT :)

Here's what I've used this feature for (before the MPC), for an example:

Let's say that I'm trying to tweek my SE ATC-1, via Midi CC 105 which is the
ATC's Filter Cutoff Midid CC.

The actual Midi Notes that are triggering the ATC are probably 16 or 32 steps or 1 or 2 bars
as I usually use a Hardware StepSequence to program the notes for it.

Now I record those 1 or 2 bars into the MPC so that the ATC's notes are triggered from
the ATC.

I then go about on let's say 4 tracks, and record me tweaking Midi CC 105 on the same
midi channel as the ATC is set. I record 4 different Tweaks into the 4 MPC tracks and
set them to the same Mute Group. Now I have 4 completely different variations of the
acid line or bass line that I am using, Only problem with the current MPC design is:

1.) All the ATC's filter cutoff tracks have to be the same length. Not natural or necessary
except by the MPC's sequencer design.

2) Odd numbers don't paste well together. I end up having to figure out the Lowest Common Denominator. I really don't want to be doing Math while making music... Music is math as it is :)
If one tweak is 3 bars and another is 13, then I will have to copy and paste both tracks
out to 39 in order for them to be the same length. As you start adding more and more
tracks, this math becomes more complicated.

So with the above, we might have 1 filter tweak that's 3 bars, another that is 5 bars,
another that is 13 bars and another that is 128bars, plus the actual notes of the
instrument is a 2 bar loop.

That's a lot of copying and pasting and wasting space and time to do figure out and apply,
when one should be able to just turn on this feature and it's resolved.

Cheers...
Dave

I'd like to have more routing options for the midi ports!
I'd love to able to send the physical inputs directly to physical outputs.
This Would be very usefull when using the mpc in combinations with a soft sequencer like ableton or pro tools. Anyone who did that request to AKai already ?

The surprise upgrade will most likely come out by the end of this year, but the beta may come out this month. Big surprise for remixers for sure. But the loop tracks function may not be included in the latest version according to a good source. However it may be implimented in future os 2005. Can`t say much but the next one will be grand. :D

Haze, what do you mean with the 'loop tracks' function? Maybe my individual track length proposal? Oh man I would die if they would include that. Too bad, 2005 is a loooong stretch...

Should be interesting.. sound to me like the next OS is attempting to address
the competition (MV 8000). The loop tracks or individual track length feature, I'm
just glad that they are still considering it.

Wonder what a 'remixer' would want from the 4k....

He or she wants to record a long track of a song, right? And then slice it and/or add stuff, right? So indeed, maybe the disk streaming feature made it into the OS!

That too would make me very happy. It's second on my wish list. heh.

Yeah the individual track length I hinted was considered but not implimented in the coming O.S. But I was hinted again that it may be featured in 2005. Also a future hybrid 1500 series may come out at year end or Jan 2005 sort of between the 2XL and 4K. The new 4K O.S. will have a few very nice surprises for remixing tracks but thats all I can say and yeah you are getting close Rob san. :D

I love my 4K.

P.S, Keep sending in the reports and ideas for the 4K straight to the Akai marketing and next the reasearch depts they are listening. :D

Damn, that's a shame really. It would have been so great the have this feature available now that I'm finally getting my 4k. Oh well, I can wait for the following OS update.

MPC1500? Any specs available? Is it any competition for the 4k?

Ah! :D
Thanks for the info Haze. Can't wait for that update! And the next one, heh.
