I've been messing around on Turntables and collecting records for about 2 years now. I buy records weekly and have 2 Technics and a Rane mixer. Productions been something i've been aspired to do ever since I started listening to Hip Hop, Jazz, R&B, Soul, ect. I tend to find things i'd like to sample and put into a song that I create. So basically productions on my mind. I have a few questions though

Is it almost essential these days to use software with MPCs? I've attempted to get into Ableton and protools and reason and I'll admit I have had really no fun trying to learn the software.

Are drum machines tools that also require a lot of other equipment as well? Would I find myself needing to buy programs and sound cards, ect. that you would need with MIDI controllers and a computer software setup?

Am I able to setup my turntables directly to the MPC and record samples onto it and chop and save them?

Also which model do yall recommend? I hear some down sides to the blue MPC 1000's but I know the black model is nice. Also theres the 2000 and 2000XL. The 2000XL is appealing because of it's larger body makes it a little more comfortable.

I appreciate it!

2xl is great machine but you'll need older technology to save with, The 1k with jj is fully capable of making great music, a lot heat around here is made on them. You dont need a computer, you love vinyl already and have the tables, with a mpc and some headphones or speakers you'll be fine and ready to make music. I hate clicking mouses and using programs, the only time I need software is when I'm ready to track out the final beat from hardware (the mpc) to upload to the internet.

2500 has best sides of both: functionality of 1000 (plus the JJ OS-XL option), size of 2000XL.

That may be true. But then again it's $1800 new. I'm going to take it real slow looking for one but I'm going to try and get an MPC 1000 (black newer model) with JJOS for $500 in good but used condition. I want one probably by the end of August.

I found a MPC1000 BK (with silver backplate not black) for $500 which is what im wanting to spend. Im a little thrown off with the whole new pads thing. I understand the newest models come with the upgraded pads but Im not sure if the 1000BK does. I just want to make sure it's what I want before I buy it. If this doesnt come with the upgraded pads should I think about waiting till I can find a newer one that does have them? Is this something that's going to be really important for me to have right off the bat? Though im not really wanting to spend $200 on pad upgrades for a long time.

Thanks!

If it already has pad upgrades, then yes, it's ok. But for that kind of price, there'll better be full memory, JJ-OS2XL with password installed AND an internal hard disk...

The old pads will inevitably fail sooner or later. Use the search.

The seller states that "the newer black ones come with upgraded pads" and says that his does but i'm still a little hesitant because from what i've read the 1000BK (silver back pannel) doesnt have upgraded pads. It just seems like an easy thing to lie about. It does have the ram upgrade
