Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

I've been using a 500gb internal for a few years. I've installed 500gb drives in a few MPC4000s without a problem using GUI format on the pc, loading the MPC with sounds and programs, and then moving the drive to the 4000.

Conversely, this is the quickest way to back up a large, internal MPC drive. Take it out of the MPC, and either put it in a PC, or use an enclosure. Although it is a pain to have to go inside the 4000, backing up over 100 gig with AKSYS is a nightmare.

There is such a load of bullshit on this bumped thread.

The answer to the original question is: the maximum internal hard drive size supported by the MPC4000 is 120GB (or 128GB, depending how you count).

You format the drive using the MPC4000's own format utility.

You do NOT format it "on a PC".
It does NOT support 500GB drives or any other bigger bullshit size.

If you try to use a big drive like that, formatted on a PC, it will appear to be working until some data gets written to the bits that are over the 128GB limit, at which point all hell will break lose, the MPC4000 will go on fire and that little lady from inside the screen will come out and whup your ass. Do no say you were not warned.

Is this also the case for "large" drives that are partitioned?

The MPC400 cannot format drives into partitions.

So how would you get a partitioned hard drive into it...?

You'd have to format it on a PC :WTF: I TOLD YOU NOT TO DO THAT :Sigh:

I think this thread needs to sink, so whoever bumped it can start a new one.
