layering samples

can some one explain about layering samples. i understand how to layer drums , but i read something sayin rjd2 layers his samples well. anyone able to explain ?

A drumsample is still a sample right?
If you can layer a drum, you know how to layer anything. Of course layering loops like that doesn't make a lot of sense, if that's what you mean. I would put them on different tracks so you have a little more control.
I'm not so sure rjd2 uses that many loops though. His songs sound like he chopped a lot.

depending on the source you read it from, they probably meant layering samples, in that he might use strings from one record and piano from another, etc.

brainwashcloth you hit it on the head. Sample differnt instruments to get a thiker sound and subtle variations.
Example:
1. Mallet with Guitar hit and piano all on the same rythm.
2. Bass / Sax / and Kick drum on another.
3. Snare / finger snap / guitar strum(only on 3rd or 4th beat on this sound)
4. Horn section / Brass hit / String Hit (on bar 1 beat 1).
Tweek all the sounds and add delay on sync to your tempo for step #4
Wallah recipie for a quick hit.
This is just the tip of the iceberg.
