just bought a new quiet fan for my DAW

hah googled it for an image to show you suckers and this was one of them, so



zalman 9700 for 50 bucks

i've not even wanted to start up my DAW these days because the fan is so loud.
i've been spending more time on just the MPC working with samples cuz that's how all my songs start anyway
but damn, kills your inspiration to hear brrsssszzzzzhhhhh under all your other sounds. especially when your song's space and room noise is such a crucial (and underutilized) aspect of your beat.
i hope this will be a massive improvement.

Nice. My video card fan is kinda loud too. Was gonna change it for a fanless heatsink video card, but now that I have the booth, no need to waste the money.

yeah man that's pretty sweet. can't beat having a separate room for recording. i recorded all vocals for WBL in my room, just used Reafir and a dry room recording to noise cancel. not ideal but it got the job done. progress over prowess.

i have considered using foam to block off my PC so that the air ports are free but the rest is foamed off...hoping to block off some more of the noise, but i think the new cooler should do the trick instead.

tweaking your setup is such a dangerous game, i could go on and on with the things i want to do and sh!t i'd like to buy.

The PC I've just moved from was very quiet... Almost to the point of not realising the computer was switched on at times.

The fans on my Mac pipe up from time to time, but in general they are near silent.

Yeah man! That sounds dope. That Zalman should be nice though. You might be able to do a slight overclock with it too if you haven't already. I actually have the coolermaster V8 on mine. Let's me OC from 2.4 to 3.0 without a problem! Pretty cheap too. Only $60 from New Egg!

120mm fans are pretty quiet...I gotta get me one of those v8s or v10s for my I7 build...I use mbp for music nowdays instead of dekstop pc and that thing makes no noise whatsoever once I put a SSD instead of mechanical hard disk cant even tell it's on or not

i wish there was something like this for laptops... i swear my toshiba laptop sounds like it's either gonna fly away or hand me a fuggin jamba juice smoothie at any minute now...

nah i had macbooks before as well... mac users just don't notice that kinda sh!t ever because they get the latest model every single year while my laptop is pushing 2 and 1/2 years at this point...

my asus ul20a is extremely quiet and has ample power for lightweight daw use.

hellfire that cooler looks serious! i didn't shop around too much, i just bought the zalmann on amazon so i could return it if i didn't think it was quiet enough. the thing that sucks is i'll have to take my mobo out of my case, ie take my entire computer apart. haven't done that since i built it in 08.

i still love that machine though

prolly all you have to do is take the bottom cover off and dust off the fans inside.. in my desktop pc back in the day I would put a drop of oil in the center screw of the fan under the sticker to make sure it dont squeek either.

yea chances are once you do that with that zalman heatsink you prolly wont wanna do it again to swap it for different one...if anything you can get a quiter fan for it...but in general those larger fans are much quiter than smaller cuz they dont gotta spin as fast to produce sufficient air circulation...that cooler master v8 has good reputation for some time now,,there is a v10 version of with and it comes with ram fan coolers

I need to get a new one for my video card too... shit sounds like a car misfiring. The rev-ing the fan makes has that swing though.
