The only thing is that Mac's look nicer on your desktop.

Let's see you build a PC laptop comparable to the MacBook Pro for half the price.

yeah good laptops are always expensive even in the pc world. I used to like alienware back in the day but I have no idea if they are still well built and good now that dell owns them since I have not tried any of the new ones.

you could always get an apple decal and a can of white spray paint though if you want to sit in the starbucks window.

I'm sure someone from Korg will read this topic eventually and possibly make another app with all the ideas being mentioned.
As far as JJ is concerned, I know he will continue to put all his efforts into further developing for the 1000 and 2500.
So I'll keep this topic here, as it's doing no harm.
Now go make some **** beats!!!

Just jumping in here in case you guys haven't tried Nanostudio yet - seriously rocks on my iPhone 3GS, plus I bought the Synthstation25 to use as a controller for it. Next up just ordered an iConnectMidi, so once that arrives I can sync my MPC1000 and iPhone/Nanostudio - know that's what I'm talkin'bout!

Also, just to throw this in, I moved to an iMac about 2 years ago, after having used self-built PC's since I was about 18 (34 now) and Mac's are serious machines. Yeah they're expensive, but the hardware is seriously solid, the screen is a beauty, but most of all (and the thing which most people fail to mention) the OS kicks Windows's butt bigtime. Not had one crash in over 2 years, and everything runs so nice and smooth (even Windows if you really need it). Productivity up 1000% within a day for real. So don't be hating :-)

i see lots of cool apps coming out for the ipad and iphone/ipod touch. but the problem i have is not only the price of these devices, but also the fact that there's no telling how long these devices will last, also the fact that when they break, it's not like they can be repaired as easily as an mpc. i'm sure a replacement battery for an ipad, iphone, or ipod touch will cost an arm and a leg. i'm not saying this to discourage anyone from buying such devices. but in the long run, i know i'd rather spend the money on replacement parts for the mpc.

get a used one, or even a refurbished one from apple. there is always a bunch of them on ebay / craigslist.

for music uses you don't need the 3g or huge amounts of storage, so the 16gb wifi model is fine. that's the one i got (refurbished 1st gen) and it was $399. cheaper than a used mpc 1000!

word up.

this thread is great, i've been sleeping.

I've had the first gen iPad since the week it released. I havent had any issues software wise, the battery life is awesome (I dont have the 3g one). There are a TON of apps for pretty much everything lol. When I first got it I got my hands on a bunch of music apps, some of the sounds made their way into my last beat CD. Recently tho, I have been using it more for my photography. I love shooting, then thrown the memory card in it and previewing the shots on the screen. Yea its pricey but it works and Id rather pay a little extra for that.

I have a first gen 3g and battery life is still excellent, although it helps to switch off the 3g if you're not using it. Yeah it's overpriced and eventual replacement of the battery is a pain, but unfortunately that's Apple's business model, and I and many others are guilty of co-enabling them. The new generation joints of iOS devices always get released 12-18 months after the last ones, right when your battery is probably starting to die. Factor that in with the want for the new tech, and they got a lot people re-upping yearly. Again to co-sign Pound's statement, when the 2g ipads rolled out, my iPad battery was still 90-95% as good as when I got it, I can't say that about my previous iPod Touch, Classics or my iPhone. I'm waiting for the inevitable 1GB RAM iPad 3.

There might be some legal issues involved? Is JJOS using any of Akai's code? What I'd like to see happen is a JJOS emulator for OS X/Windows. Apple doesn't allow emulations on iPads, unfortunately.

The full JJOS on an iPad wouldn't be good unless you hooked up some pads with the camera connection kit or, like, an Alesis I/O dock. The MPC is a tactile and physical experience. Many of the functions can be accomplished without using your eyes. The iPad'll alone never be able to give you that because you can't tell what you're touching without looking. Ipad needs gesture control and the like. I mean my favorite part about JJOS is probably the chopping, but if you can actually touch the waveform, why not!

I would like to see a way to access the MPC's CF or HD from the ipad. A a multi-sampler on iPad that lets you assign each to MIDI channels 1-16 (or less depending on how many an ipad can handle).

That's a great idea. I'm surprised Crystal, Hammerhead and MS-20 are the only VST's ported to iOS. I would easily pay $35 for a sequencable Poise app.

You got me thinking, does anybody know the whereabouts of the RS-16X developer? It's a Mac only program, and would probably take a week to port to iOS. Maybe we could petition the guy if we can find him?

Cyrus, you and the OP really nailed it with the point of the iPad being perfectly suited for a sample only app that focuses the coding on the tightest possible MIDI sequencing. NanoStudio and Beatmaker are great, but I'd love to squeeze all the juice out of the iPad with an app that follows the MPC's(JJ) OS as closely as possible.

so why not take the app JJ made and see if you could port it... or get a tablet it works on... not sure if there is a way to get it but it looked not too fancy plus the dude took time away from developing the mpc os series.
