you don't like using ableton's slice to midi feat and drum rack? you can create your own slicing presets and save them for when you use slice to midi. i set one up so it slices and sets all my volumes to 0 with the release all the way up (this one i use when chopping up breaks) and i set one up so it slices and sets all my volumes to 0, the release all the way up and all my slices to choke group 1 (this is good for chopping up samples and having the pads cut each other off)

i also just found out that with drum rack, after your done your beat, you can drag each chain out of drum rack and it will create a new midi track with all your midi info and just the one sound. so you can have all your drum rack sounds separate if you want to stem out your beat. i use to duplicate drum rack, then mute all but one sound to have each sound separate on a bounce. this way of dragging each chain out it way easier!

drum rack and sampler in ableton are real nice, once you get the hang of working with them.

I was using multiple instances of impulse routed to a drum bus but man i could never go back to that after using this software ,It is that good

so you completely ditched live in favor of geist or rewire ?

Just use geist to make drum beats

use ableton to produce i even use live to flip the samples

geist is just instead of using the mouse in impulse, just faster

yea they did, Imma try to sell it or if i cant unload it hold it hopefully it will mature over time they been updating frequently...thank god I only paid 100 for it and not full retail

Sonivox has good sounds though in general. I have a lot of their stuff for Reason. Is the Pulse library encrypted or just WAVS?

Have the people who have geist tried automating the filter res and cutoff on the say a hi hat track and the fine pitch as well with the included waveforms ....ha ha its boss instant grooves

A ?.... I thought that the pads in Drum Racks were already routed to its on seperate audio channel. If u click the little arrow at the top of the original drum rack channel, it will open up every individual sound on its own audio channel. Just wondering why u would need to create multiple midi channels when all u want to do is seperate sounds? And Geist looks pretty dope. I just copped a laptop (dual core 1.9ghz 2gb ram) for $60. Plan to put together a mobile setup. I am fixed on slapping Reason 5 on it, due to it being far less CPU hungry than most programs. My system might not be powerful enough to run geist efficiently... might see about upgrading the ram and cpu if possible.

I have a relatively cheap packard bell desktop which runs quad core at 2.5 (ithink) and has 8 gig ram and no joke if i just use geist and do a kinda complex beat and apply 6 fx to every sample and a bus compressor to glue it ,the Cpu on ableton is knocking nearly 80% making me having to sample to loop and delete geist to carry on producing and this on live which is cpu load light.

It is the best Drum machine peroid imo

do any of you feel that geist is over featured to the point where it trips over itself, workflow wise? or, does it have any withered limbs (lame step sequencers, poorly thought out fx, bells and whistles)?

i haven't used it, so i'm not accusing, but in my experience a lot of these software drum vstis (battery) suffer from the above

no its very good ,seriously i sold my akai years ago and this is 10 x better, i use akai laptop pads

i'll have to check it out. i've been using Poise for a couple years now and it's really fantastic but Poise and Geist are in different leagues/categories.

I encourage you to do that the way it quantize's is groundbreaking .at first i thought they have left loads of stuff out like count in and things like that then then the penny dropped .you have to look at it from different co-ordinates to a MPC.

I chop samples in ableton as i found an easy way to do it so i havent choped in Geist so i don't know that but for making loops it brilliant esp the FX and the envelope shaper ,seriously good

I would say no. The GUI is pretty streamlined and I think FXpansion learned a lot from users feedback with GURU. For myself it's one of those programs where it's easy to focus on whatever you need in the moment, but other features are easily accessible when you need them. The sequencer is dope and the FX are excellent (superior to Maschine's without a doubt). The DCAM synth dev team have excellent DSP, and that is the origin of the FX algorithms. I highly recommend trying the demo. I think Cosmic's enthusiasm for the product is very valid. Having lurked here for years and seeing your style and approach Nym, I think there's good chance you'd like it if you're in the market for something ITB.
