What monitors do you guys use?

Hey guys, I was just looking around for some monitors and I was curious what you guys were using. I was looking for something that gives me the best band for the buck. Thanks!

What's your budget (roughly) ? It'd make it easier to suggest a set...

I use ADAM A7X and really love them. They are not the cheapest, but they're also worth every penny in my opinion. Search for some reviews and you'll find that people have nothing but good things to say about them.

I've also listened to a few Genelec monitors when i bought my ADAM's. Those sound sweet aswell.

Best bang for buck... have a look at the Yamaha HS80m. People are quite pleased with those aswell.

Most important advice i can give you is to go to a store where you can listen to monitors and compare them (take your own CD's with you when you do that).
We all have different hearing/ears and taste. And while good monitors should help you in making a good sounding mix that translates well to most other speaker systems, they should also match your personal preferences. Go to a store, listen and compare, then pick the ones you like best!

Well, I wanted going to hear a few this weekend. I was not planning on spending more than 150 on the pair. Thanks for the input guys!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but for 150 a pair... they are going to sound like crap.

You won't find even remotely decent monitors for that kind of money. Better look for second hand monitors in that case... ebay is your friend.

SHIT! Sorry I meant $150 per speaker. I know some monitors get sold by the unit rather than pairs. My bad, my bad

In my opinion it's not worth it to waste money on super cheap audio stuff. It will sound disappointing and he's only going to sell it again to buy something better.

He'd be better off using some cheap pc speakers and save his money until he can afford something above cheap entry level equipment. It's going to save him money in the long run.

Or as i said... ebay (you'd have to rely on reviews tho, since you can't listen to them on ebay).

Yamaha HS50's...you can probably shop around and get GC to match prices for $150/each.

That's still on the very very cheap side. Maybe a pair of KRK Rockit 5 G2, or yamaha HS50... but those aren't going to have a great frequency response... you'll need a sub.

Again, maybe look for something on ebay.

Behringer 2031A's, 8"woofers, room controls, $300 (pair) including shipping... And I never looked back!

He could get the 6's at that price...probably what I'd do.

I'm not used to US prices. Over here he couldn't even get the 5G2.

buy a nice pair once and have them for many many years. Buy a cheap set and start over again every few years
