What monitors do you guys use?

event project studio 8, second hand off craigslist for $250...previously had alesis m1 active 620, faulty power supply took shit on both...

I got a pair of Yamaha HS 80´s. Sound very "honest" as I believe

Mackie HR-624 mk1 > Prev to the Mackie were a set of Fostex PM1 mk2's.. These are terrible imo and miss a HUGE chunk of mid range. At the time I also had some B&W DM-602 S3's bare in mind these are hi-fi speakers and they were about 100000 times better than the fostex... Better highs, way better mids.. I mean open mids and better low end that didn't suffer from port cuffing.

Ahh the Mackies...they are ok, nice mids and ok top end but the low end just don't seem right to me..it's there and it's not that I'm not happy with how much comes out but the timing seems odd...everything else seems to balance out well though other than that I quite like them... the small driver kind of struggles with complex arrangements at times though.

Naim Audio Credo.. Go down to like 36Hz and really show up the source, may be a hi-fi speaker but boy do they sound good... I mix on the mackies then check on these and headphones...
Playing stuff that is well produced like John Martyn, Fleetwood Mac...albums that cost a lot of money to record and when studio gear was the ish takes your breath away... It's like it's being played in front of you.


Funny part is this.. When I'm being creative, sound quality suffers and I seem to ignore all the do's and dont's...may as well of mixed it on a set of shi* speakers...when I'm being technical the stuff sounds great but it's never a GREAT tune more just a technical achievement hahah

Just upgraded about 2 months ago to a pair of Yamaha HS80M's....I don't plan on upgrading for a long while. Before these I had a pair of M-audio Bx5a's...they are also great monitors.

They cost 10 times what my car is worth!

I'm still using my JBL Control 5 Plus monitors and Control SB-5 sub for the past 16 years. I bought them in Italy and they are still going strong.

A Sweetwater rep was trying to talk me into buy a pair...they weren't $7500 though...if I remember correctly they were $900 per speaker. Needless to say I went with the Yamaha's LOL...but for a while he had me thinking about buying a pair. Focals are definitely cream of the crop but for 'most' of the heads on this forum they are probably overkill as room treatment and correction stuff starts becoming more important to someone buying high end monitors like these....at least thats what I would think.

^^^Really good advice. Rokits def. sound the best in the price range. IMO, the HS50/80's sound like ass, And M Audios sound like balls. If you can afford to, roll with the Adam A7X or some Genelec 80 series (8020/8040's) , they are definitely the best sounding speakers in their price range. =(that Ive heard)
