I always wanted to upgrade my mpc60 to the newer 3.0 OS (mine is the old 2.0 os version)... but $200'ish for an os upgrade for these features is ridiculous. And I find the 2.0 sequencer functions perfect and very very totally capable.
BUT, the only thing I really want in the new OS upgrade is mostly the "Sound Stuttering" features (ie: replay/restart a pad-hit by repeatedly pressing it without the sound overlapping/layering/playing over itself; ie: mono, or better description, kinda like backscratching a record), muting when a pad is released, and also muting one pad if another pad is hit (ie: like for cymbal mutes to another sound, hats etc.) etc. Another big feature is extending sample time over 5 secs. I don't really care for the scsi 3k compatibility, loading while playing, seq un-erased when sampling, 2 extra pad banks (since the mem is so small anyways), and the minor sequncer improvements etc., etc., etc ...biggest thing is "Sound Stuttering" stuff for me...and $200 is def not worth it just for that I think.
Now I just though to myself...hmmm, can't one get all those "sound stuttering" features on a cheap S900/950? Yup..kinda different though, as of course it'll be laid out on the keyboard instead of pads...so it's basically a piano/keyboard - ie: play a single key and it'll mute if you let go, repeat in mono if you keep repeatedly hitting the key and even mute a sound (by letting go of the key) if another key with a diff sample is pressed....and, if getting an S950, you ALSO get Time-stretching which isn't available in the 3.0 OS, lol .....so wouldn't getting an S900/950 for cheap be a better alternative than buying the 3.0 upgrade if someone just wants the "sound stuttering" features??? I think I answered my own question - yes...hahaha, lol...ya, Im a tard, ha... I guess I just wanted to share my joy in my recent revelation.
Oh yeah...not to mention you get an extra 750k, 1.5m, or even 2.25m in extra memory you won't get with an OS upgrade

Sold my S900 for $220 a few weeks ago...figured I didn't really need it since i have an MPC60 already and same sound...always wanted the Emax (for the filters) or S950 more (since the S950 at least has much more memory)...But, I still really need at least one rack/synth sampler again..as the MPC is primarily a drum pad sampler that doesn't spread the samples throughout the keyboard.
And after planning not to buy anything for a while and save my money for moving.... I just scooped up a nice mint looking S950 with maxed out ram on ebay this morning for $200!!! (it didn't state the memory in the ad..but after asking the seller, he says it has 1536 kwords [max ram])

...I notice maxed out S950's on ebay and craiglist have been selling for $400 to even $600 lately... I got lucky! XD
Maxed out S950's are hard to come by (for a decent price) nowadays I noticed (i've been checking everyday for the past 6 months)...most are only 512kwords ..lol, might as well get an s900 if it only has 720kb installed...as extra memory costs some serious nuggets..
