I really want to have a pair of good small monitor speakers (like the size of NS-10), but I've been just using headphone (Sony MDR-V6) and very cheap more than 10 year old JVC mini stereo system that still work (it sounds crap, but better than nothing.)
I also have a pair of old (but amazing) JBL 4311 monitors in my living room, but those are just too big for my room for vinyls, turntable and MPC.

i've had these for years in my small apartment and have zero complaints... i also recently found the HS-10 subwoofer which was designed for these monitors priced real cheap at a pawn shop [$120] and added that to the setup as well... the combo is pretty damn impressive for the price... just keep in mind that i currently live in a pretty small space... if i had a larger room, i'd probably get the slightly larger HS80's instead.

i cant decide whether i want the Yamaha HS50's or the KRK 5's

i've read pretty much the same reviews, most positive and then the same negative reviews, of both models.

the nearest guitar center is in memphis, and im not driving 2 hours to test some speakers. im pretty sure both will do just fine for the price range, but when i upgrade from my computer speakers, i'll be going with one of these above...

You won't find even remotely decent monitors for that kind of money. Better look for second hand monitors in that case... ebay is your friend.

illmind who has some very sonically on point music mixes on some bullshit speakers or headphones and shit sound dope right out of the asr so dont get it twisted u dont need 1K speaker u dont need 500 quid speakers.

should be no brainer...but I would add sub to either cuz with 5" woofer you will only be guessing what's going on with low end...
