Should i sell my MPC2500?

I have an mpc2500 and i am not sure how much use i will get out of it, as it has been in storeage for a while. I have had an offer of 550 quid, but that is literally half of what i paid for it and i am quite fond of it.

I am using ableton live these days mostly.

What are the advantages of the mpc?

You should have found that out before you spent all that cash on it.

Either crack open the box and learn the benefits yourself, or just sell it to someone who knows what they are buying.

Not at all, I just find out about gear before I buy it, so at least then I don't need to ask on a forum what the benefits are of gear I already own.

you're going to get some depreciation in value and to be honest - I think the newer models will not hold their value like the older (3000,60) models.
I paid 600 for my 2500 about 2 years ago. 550 is not that unreasonable a price nowadays but I appreciate that you paid a lot more.
But do think about whether you want to take the time to learn the machine. I ended up with the 3000 and am far happier because its more simple to use - this is important as I don't have 4 hours a day to learn every feature on my mpc so I get the most out of it.
Its simple maths, if you don't have the time to make that initial investment of a thousand pounds worthwhile, then sell it for 550. Has to make more sense then leaving it in the cupboard and getting nothing back at all...
That 550 could get you a few more plugins, a new sound card, speakers...something that you would actually use.

I've kind've gone the other direction. I was an Ableton Live avid, still am for that matter.

But, I kind of missed the physicality of making music; started off playing guitar. The MPC puts the physicality back, I'm using my arms & elbows, my whole hands.... both of them. USB pads don't quite have the same vibe - got a Korg nanopad.

The MPC is playing an instrument, the DAW is like using photoshop or something, still creative, but in a different way.

It may be that you'll come back round to the MPC after a while for a similar reason. So may be worth keeping if you don't need the cash & don't mind the depreciation. I've had gear that has lain unused for a while & has been not worth selling suddenly come back into its own a few years later. Though over 500 quid's worth of unused MPC is quite a bit to sit on.

Why not the best of both worlds? When I feel like messing with just my 5000, i'ts there. When I want to work with just the DAW, I can. Sometimes I'm bored with Ableton I'll just use Cubase.....

Had the same thing, but the other way around.

I do have Live on my pc, but work mainly with the 2500.
Yesterday I was cleaning up my pc, when I was debating with myself whether I should remove Live or not.
I tryed it a few times, but it never motivated me to come back to it everytime to learn it. The mpc got me hooked the first moment I touched it. I even knew I had to buy one to at least try it when I first read about it.

Ableton live is still on my desktop. I concluded that it's never a bad thing to have something like that lying around. To switch up the process when I'm bored, or for whenever I have the desire to work mainly with the pc for a particular project.

So I would say, keep the 2500. Unless money is an issue.

I sold my Mpc 2500 about 2 months ago. I'm of the persuasion that anything that the Mpc 2500 can do can be done with software. In my case I'm using Reason5/Recycle/Record 1.5 and I don't miss the 2500. I have a MPD32 and it gives me the same feel that I had with the 2500...and if I need to get portable I have a laptop running Reason 5. I looked into it very carefully before I sold my 2500 because I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to regret it and sure enough it turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made concerning my gear. I absolutely love Mpc's but for me my current setup gives me everything I had with the 2500 and much more. If you're satisfied with what you're doing in Ableton and you are not using the Mpc ....it get rid of it. I've noticed the 2500 is losing value on the used market so if you're going to sell it you better do it while you can get some decent money for it....no sense in letting it sit around for another year. That's my 2 cents.

You would not be the first to go back to the MPC.... If money is not an issue just store thr 2500 or use it as a controller. The MPD32 sucks monkeyballs, it doesn't give you the same feel whatsoever. I know because I had one. I have a 5000 I use as a MIDI controller sometimes and it's simpler compared to the the MPD32.

Anyways. It's easy to work on a DAW solely, but inspiritaion is about changeup. You will get bored watching the screen all the time.

what´s killing it for me to make beats with a computer and a controller is the latency. to me it never feels like using my mpc.

a couple of years ago i sold my 2000xl because i was curious about using reason with a mpd26. boring as fvck! 2 weeks later i copped a used 1000 and was in heaven again.

nowadays i own a 2500 se which is my weapon of choice.

to me computers/daws are perfectly fine for tracking, mixing, mastering and sample storage/management, but not for beat making!

I have no latency at all...even on my laptop with its modest processor I don't have latency issues. The only time I've have latency problems with the PC was when I was just beginning to learn how to set things up within a DAW. Once I learned how to deal with latency and started using ASIO drivers I haven't had any problems.
