Id be upset if i bought it when it came out...

enable vst support and just be done with it already.

enable REASON instruments as VST and be done with it already...i have no interest in the REASON sequencer/routing/interface, just want those nice instruments as vsti. nnxt is a FINE sampler.

i dont understand what the difference is with having Reason's instruments as VST when you can rewire. CPU processor usage can't be that high having both programs open and reason is just acting as the slave application.

that's true, but it's a lot less convenient to load up reason, add an instrument and then configure the midi/audio outputs in both daw and reason than it is to just drop a VSTi into place. not to mention midi learning, etc - much easier to do in 1 host than 2. i stopped using Reason in favor of kontakt for this very reason, not that kontakt doesn't have its own facepalm moments of tiny gui and obnoxious 2-left-foot, all thumbs overachievement.

small, single purpose VSTi for the win. this is why vsti versions of nnxt and combinator would be killer.

i do have to say with regard to the 6.0 update.........Alligator looks laike a nice addition....!

I've always had this love/hate relationship with Reason. I feel that Record was kind of a testing pool for cutting out the middleman. (ProTools, etc.) Now I definitely with Nym on that dongle BS. (Will get cracked in a week anyway...) But I would love to get my grubby hands on that interface! It looks stupid dumb easy to use.

Now for the millon dollar question???

Will it host VSTs???

Now that I look at most of the new stuff, hell, you might not even need any VSTs. I'm guessing NepTune is the answer to Auto-tune, Melodyne, and Harmony Engine all in one. Bit-crusher and elastic audio is a big plus sign there too. The Echo is what I liked but I already have a VST that does that now. I just want more QUALITY banks to flip through.

No is right....they released a long blog post stating why VST's will never be a part of the Record/Reason environment ....I think allowing their stuff to be used in a DAW in Rewire is the best it's gonna get.

But has anybody ever paid for Reason, honestly? Can't blame them for introducing a dongle if thats true.

of COURSE you can blame them! if anyone else wanted to slip you a dong, you'd throw a tantrum. however, when it's accompanied with some slick marketing, you suck it up, pun intended.

make your product affordable and your license trustful and forgiving and customers will line up around the block to use, support, and spread the word on your awesome software. cut out your marketing department and let your customers do it for you. it's way more believable and lets your resources go to more important departments, like hmmmm - development? research and design???

After having Pro Tools and going through all that iLok BS I never want a dongle again, ever.

The fact that is also occupied a valuable USB slot 24/7 just compounded all the other headaches.

I didn't touch Logic until Apple dropped the dongle.

Def worth paying for legit (dongle free) shit in the long run.

Back on topic, I stalled at Reason 4 partly because I like Mike Boogie also thought the whole Record thing was an R&D experiment.

Reason 6 looks dope though and its a step closer to what many users really want (Reason plug-ins).

Clint you bring up an interesting point here. I've been messing with DAW's for a little over 6 years, and in that time I've only known 4 people with a legit Reason license. I mean people I physically see, I'm sure on forums I've talked to a lot of legit users. I think we all know that Reason and FL are the 2 most cracked music apps on earth.

Nym, I give you credit for sticking to your principles and in a general sense agree with your philosophy. But like Clint said, you have to put yourself in the developer's shoes for a second. Personally the main issue I have with dongles is the physical aspect of having to lose a USB port, then to make matters worse, you have iLok, Steinberg Key and Codemeter. The industry really should have settled on one. I switched from a laptop back to a tower, so I have plenty of USB ports for my 2 dongles, but it was a real pain on the laptop even with a hub.

I own the Duo package, and I'm a little bitter that a purchase of Duo between now and September gets you a Reason 6 upgrade for free, but a current loyal user will be charged $99. So I guess they want me to pay for the new users? It's like DAW welfare
