Thank you. Anywhere else I post my gripes they act like I'm an ungrateful troll. Bottom line, a guy off the street shouldn't get a better hookup than someone who's already supporting your company.

I have a paid version of reason 5/ record 1.5 well 5 was free to upgrade from four, but i paid for record, I wont need any vst's i can accomplish most of everything in record, the neptune is already in 1.5, I understand the dongle, record 1.5 cant be cracked effectively, and Nym your wrong about trust, ppl aren all gonna pay like you, there is nothing wrong with protecting your product from piracy. As of now with reason/record i can accomplish anything any other daw can with its vst's. The only reason im getting PT nine is for compatibilty and to run with the presonus studiolive i will be acquiring. reason is great for what is, sound design and beat making, there are still only two real daws out there for effective recordings such as vocals and that is pt and nuendo. you couldnt run a pro studio open to the public without one or the other

why? that's extremely subjective

there is nothing wrong with protecting your product from piracy

very slippery slope. once you start f*cking up a paid user's experience in favor of blocking pirates, you've gone too far. call/response and dong penetration fall into that category.

an unlimited license key that does NOT connect to the internet to authenticate is ample copy protection if you have affordable pricing and support from your users. i can point to several extremely successful cases where devs are hauling in sales using this business model. meanwhile, cracks for dongled and restricted software are as rampant as ever. often, these cracked versions of dongled/copy protected programs are FAR more convenient for the end user than the official version. nobody wins.

when you stop accepting BS licenses from companies, they'll change their ways.

copy protection is like this:

you've got a little town. you've worked and worked and you've harvested a sh!t ton of grain, and you want to protect it from bandits who come every year at harvest and take your sh!t. so you hire 7 gunmen to come and protect you. they build a really high wall around the whole town with 1 opening that they control. to come in and out of the town, you need to go through that door and get hassled by the 7 gunmen who are growing fat off your grain.

meanwhile, the bandits cobble together a pair of stilts and come and go freely, taking all your grain...the gunmen, now obese and complacent by their door, do nothing to prevent these bandits - but they still give you a hard time every time you come in and out of your own town.

logic is nowhere to be found in this picture.

The fact that is also occupied a valuable USB slot 24/7 just compounded all the other headaches.

I didn't touch Logic until Apple dropped the dongle.

Def worth paying for legit (dongle free) shit in the long run.

Back on topic, I stalled at Reason 4 partly because I like Mike Boogie also thought the whole Record thing was an R&D experiment.

Reason 6 looks dope though and its a step closer to what many users really want (Reason plug-ins).

The iLok bullshit is annoying, but it's not really that bad as far as how it functions. The reason it's an inconvenience for me is because I'm used to just hopping from my studio with the 003 and just going into the house on the family computer or my laptop and firing up pro tools with my portable mbox mini. But now with pro tools 9, if I forget the stupid iLok out in the studio, I have to run all the way back outside to get it. If they let you have a spare license on a back up dongle, that would be perfect for me, and I'd even pay a small fee for it. But I'm not buying another iLok AND paying another $250 for another PT9 license just to have a spare. So it does suck in that perspective.

As far as occupying a USB slot, that's not really a big deal since it's easy to add a powered USB hub for cheap, which many items like an iLok key can run on just fine! Especially now-a-days with new computers that have 8-10 USB slots. I guess if you have a laptop with only 3 USB slots then it could be annoying, but a hub still helps.

Unfortunately it's like that with everything. Cable companies always offer the good deals to new subscribers while people whove been with them for years pay out the ass. Jobs hire from the outside or outsource instead of hiring within. Same shit different toilet!

Actually they do let you. Have a look around in Gearslutz and the DUC

Hmmm, don't know if I follow this logic.
Employer = Propellerhead
7 Gunmen = Dongle
Bandits = Pirates

Is that correct? So you saying Propellerhead is being hassled by their own Dongles while Pirates steal from them anyway?

Or is it,
Employer = You
7 Gunmen = Propellerhead/Dongle
Bandits = Pirates

Or is this correct where You are being hassled by Propellerhead/Dongle while Pirates steal your software?

Either way, I think people are gonna steal it if it's $300 or if it's $2. Shit, people won't even buy a song for $1 or an album for $2! :lol:

Not for PT9. I made a whole thread on this and the DUC! Apparently, people were selling off their free spare licenses for a profit. This is why I suggested they should charge a small fee for the spare and that way they still get something out of the deal even if people sell it for more.

yes. customers get hassled, pirates get the Actual Software minus the CP BS.

people will steal regardless

all the more reason to make PAYING FOR and USING the software as easy and non-intrusive as possible. show goodwill to your customers and it will be returned.

Ah, I thought you were saying the little town with grain belonged to you, not that you were just a resident. Gotcha! :lol:

I dont think software companies set out to make using their software intrusive and it seems as if they've tried this model for 5 versions and they want to make a change to see if it helps with piracy. That's just my take on the dong

I'm surprised they came out with 6 so fast.reason only cost what 299.00,you have to realize what your getting for that price,compared to what we were using in the early 90's to make music.if "THOR" or the "NN-XT" was hardware your looking at over $2500.00 not including the mixer and other devices in the program. my only gripe is the VST issue,I think that would cause more heads to buy into what their doing and if they make a 24/192 8 in& out rack mount audio interface,they can change the game.
