word tutor and debauch. 100% of legal customers must obey, while the pirates take the convenient route. if i purchased reason 6, i would immediately go and download a crack just so i wouldn't be tethered to Propellerhead's CP scheme. i've done such things before.

look into how many dongles have broken or lost...waiting for a new one? no thank you. usb drives are fragile as hell, especially on a laptop that you've got moving around. i don't want to trot out a usb stick every time i want to fire up a program - that's just obnoxious.

if your product is good, people will pay. otherwise these folks wouldn't be in business at all. look at these assholes - akai, numark, Avid, etc - it's not PRO STUDIOS keeping these clowns in business, it's US, the would-bes, shoulda beens, and wanted tos.

and Arkyve - is "the dream" to become a successful musician, or a successful studio nanny? that choice dictates the limitations in choosing a daw from the pool. i'd rather use the metric system than the antiquated standard.

I hear where you guys are coming from on the dongle. Something to consider is that Propellerhead has given registered users two options (in a way)...if you are using Reason 6 from a computer with an internet connection you have the option of not using the dongle and verifying your copy is legit via internet at start up. Not sure if this makes amends for the dongle but its something to think about.

I don't see how this discussion reflects the "dream"? Bro you've heard my music, i don't even use daws, I'm 98% percent hardware. I live my dream, I chop vinyl in a 4k, play on my tables and enjoy what I do. With that being said I've also not worked for another person or "boss" in over 4 years, and probably never will again. Me and one of my partners just secured the funds to purchase a studio in south beach from a very prominent artist. We dont have to be "nanny's" there is only 3 days outta the week its not rented out, and these artists usually bring their own engineers. That wouldn't be happening if pro tools hd wasn't installed. That was part of the selling feature, that we inherit the client list already booking the studio space. So yeah I don't need pro tools to make music in any way shape or form, but we need it in the studio down there to make money, which isnt a dream, its smart business. There is no way in hell we could purchase that location and switch it to reaper or reason and keep the already established customer base, its just not gonna happen. I take offense to you assuming I would want to be a "nanny", but I don't look for jobs, have a resume or fill out job applications, I literally sit in stacks of vinyl all day on my own time schedule. Thats pretty much the dream., oh and buying this to setup here with the rest of the gear

ah hell man i didn't mean any offense. "nanny" was a poor choice of words
by "the dream" i mean generating income from doing what it is that you want to do - ie, music/music tech as day job. if that dream is having a studio where people come in to record their music with their own notions on equipment/software (informed or otherwise) then having a PT license is a necessity, as you said.

its not really my dream to own a public studio, but its an opportunity so I gotta take it. I honestly never expect to get paid off my own music though, not really a live performer, and album's arent really selling like they used to be. Plus, my sound and style is not really for the masses

ive been a reason user since 1.0 ive paid for every update, and am a record user tpp. i **** hate the dongle. and logging in everytime you dont wanna use the dongle sucks too!! it really was the worst idea ever, cause now it puts stress on me, a paying customer. they should made a way to permanently authorize a computer..WHY??

maybe they just did this because they will offer a hardware audio interface with a built in "ignition key", as they call their dongle?

looks like the want to go the digidesign/avid way... so we just have to wait for reason 10 when it will be native again.

personally i need at least the opportunity to have donglefree licences for any software i run on a laptop, because there are any kind of forced connections a hassle if you are on the road.

all the companies that are afraid of any kind of pirated copies - they should be more afraid if noone wants to steal their product.

the masses are easily controlled like herd animals and sheep, whatever is marketed to them and given to them by repitition is what they will like.

Perfect example. My stu is detached from my house. And with pro tools 8, I was able to install it on any of my computers as long as I had hardware attached. So in the studio, I had the 003 which stayed there. And in the house, I had the portable mbox micro which I could swap between my family computer and my laptop. So I could just fire up pro tools and work from wherever I was at.

Now, with Pro Tools 9 if I don't have my iLok in the living room when I just wanna work on something right away, I have to go all the way outside to grab the iLok. And vice versa, if I go out to the studio to work, I have to go all the way back in the house to grab the iLok if I left in the house or in my laptop bag.

And on the laptop, in addition to needing the mbox micro, I now have to have an iLok plugged in. I know pro tools 9 doesn't need an interface, but for me it runs better and the volume control is much quicker to use with the hardware. Also, triggering reason on the stock soundcard has too much latency. So I need the mbox anyway for the asio drivers, which offers virtually 0 latency midi triggering in reason and pro tools. So now to also have an iLok hanging off my laptop sucks, especially when sitting on the couch moving around getting comfortable which can easily bend the dongle and break something inside the USB port (happened to my laptop already). So now that's an mbox and iLok for pro tools, now if I upgrade to reason 6, I need an additional iLok. That's 3 **** things hanging off my laptop, which only has 3 ports btw. A hub would work, but if I have the thing in my lap or at an airport or on a plane, portability isnt as easy with a bunch of cords and dongles dangling. However, for a stationary desktop setup, it's no big deal.

But again, my main issue with the iLok is that avid only allows you one license. I'd love to have a spare.

@Hellfire have you looked into ASIO4ALL? You'd probably still want to use the m-box micro for the volume as you mentioned but I'm running ASIO4ALL on my laptop with Reason and Sonar 8 and I'm getting the same latency I get on my i7 desktop which is 128 on the buffer size. My laptop isn't the greatest and occasionally I have to bump the buffer up to 256 but there is ABSOLUTELY no noticed latency and no interface needed. Just wanted to throw that out there.
