What is the optimum pad sensitivity/velocity curve setting?

I'm trying to get the velocity of my drums to hit at different levels, maybe go from something like 127 to 110 to 120 to 103 to 115, something like that. I've been trying out different settings but it seems like all I'm getting is velocities in the low 120's. Right now I have each pad set at 3 for pad sensitivity and A for velocity curve. What do you guys have and what do you recommend that I use? Exactly what does the velocity curve setting do anyways?

I'd rather not have to go in and tweak in step edit mode unless I absolutely have to.

I've tried making all sorts of adjustments. None of which impressed me. The pads suck. So I left them at the defaults.

If you want to learn more about the velocity curves, go to the Akai 2.0 manual and read up on Adjustment of Pad Sensitivity on page 101.

think i use the "B" setting for my pad velocity curve.
in the on screen velocity test, i still couldnt accuratly get any responses below 11. i tried to switch it up a while ago and try another one but it didnt make much diff as far as getting very finite differences between two taps so i just put it back on B. doesnt make near as much difference as say a keyboards velocity curve, or a crossfader curve.. not sayin its pointless but it seems like my fingers have more velocity curve adjustment than the machine itself

I also tried messing with those adjustments once and gave up like most of us. It would be interesting to see what, if any difference they would make if the CPU were connected to a set of decent quality velocity sensitive pads (ie not the 1000's)

^^^ Yeah good point, I wonder how good the adjustment will be on Nyms new pads? If the pads themselves worked well, the velocity curve wouldn't be there to compensate for shitty pads, it'll be there to customise the feel to how you like it. Would be sweet to get some new pads.

I own an MPC1000BK with the improved pads and from my experience I must say that the optimal Pad Sensitivity level for my style of playing is between 20 and 22.
I use various velocity curves, but from what I observed the Velocity Curve D is quite different from the rest. it's remarkably weaker, while I don't find much difference between the velocity curves A, B and C.
What really interests me here is the option called "Pad On Level" ... I can say that the values like 13 and lower are making the long samples cut off if u don't hold the pad hard to the end of its duration... what is more, the low values of "Pad On Level" might cause double triggering of the sounds.. Test it yourself - set a high pad sensitivity and a low pad level value.. then just press the pad few times one after nother...
I personally choose "16" in the "Pad On Level" field. It seems to be the most optimal - the pads are sensitive but their dynamics is still high. Just how I like it...

Any MPC1000/1000BK/1000BK-N owners interested in that? Do y'all have similar experience?
