I recently had a interesting dealing with T Racks 3 Deluxe. I've been using it on my macbook (core 2 duo - 2007 i believe) with logic. It absolutely murders my cpu but i love the sound of of it. It's seems to be leagues ahead of some of the logic plug-ins. We anyways i've been using a bootleg version of it and its worked like a charm until i was told about the "free sh!t" on IK Multimedia's site. I have a legitimate version of sampletron that I used to use a lot so I have an account with IK's site. I went over and downloaded "free sh!t" (Sampletank2 Free and Amplitude) and of course I had to do the registration / authentication challenge and response deal. All went great and hey I got new free sh!t. But during the registration / authentication challenge and response I was notified that I had an old version of the IK authentication program. no problem. I updated it to get my free sh!t. Small lapse in judgement totally forgot about the bootleg T Racks 3. Well after all that I went to open a logic session that just so happen to use T Racks 3 and every 10 seconds there was a burst of static / white noise... sometimes logic would just crash. I quickly deduced that it was only happening in sessions with T Racks 3 engaged in them.
(((Incidentally, I'm finishing my new album - Pathways - mastering session scheduled for 07/19))) I hadn't realized it before but I really love using T Racks 3. it's all over my album and with me being in the mixing stage and mastering session pending I found myself in a pinch. Half my album was trapped in some T Racks 3 static laden purgatory. Tried a few things (different bootleg serial #'s, uninstalling reinstalling etc ) and nothing worked so i decided to go ahead and buy the damn product seeing as though i use it so much. All is well now and i will make my mastering session in time but I thought i would share my experience... maybe you can avoid this rope a dope deal.
By the way one thing that came out of this is that I was able to send one of my sessions to a homie with a new 17 " quad core macbook pro... while the same session sends my cpu utilization thru the roof using t racks 3 his beast of a machine barely felt the notch on it's cpu with the same session. interesting... macbook pro up next. ((note: must sell kidney on black market for new macbook pro 17"))
EDIT ---->
BTW the small silver lining in this is that I shopped around and IK themselves had it for $499, AMS had it for $399 B&H had it for $299. AMS would not price match so i got it from B&H. I thought I wouldnt get the IK rebate deal (2 for 1). But I was still eligible once I registered the legit T Racks 3... so I ended up getting the IK Multimedia Total Wrokstation 2 bundle for ... wait for it.... wait for it... FREE. more FREE SH!T. 5 softsynths 28GB worth of sounds. not bad i aint mad.
