Which is better set of monitors?

Just have a quick question on peoples opinion which is better Yamaha HS80s or KRK Rokit 8s?

My primary use is sampling on an MPC5000 and an MPC3000. For the money which do you think is a better quality system?

I have the Yamaha's. I can't say enough good things about them. The only experience I have with KRK is a KRK sub10s I bought and returned because at the time I didn't have a way to control the gain level going to the sub and even with the volume all the way down on the sub it was still waaaay to loud for the room I'm in. If I had the Presonus Monitor Station that I have today I would have kept the Sub10s. Other than that I have heard that KRK monitors are a little heavy in the low end when compared to other monitors....don't know how true that is. If it is true, you don't want that as you'll end up with mixes that lack low end until you learn to compensate for the over exaggerated low end you're hearing . Ask around about both monitors, not just hear on these forums but get a variety of input before you buy so you can make sure you're getting what's best for you.

Thanks for the quick reply I will look into them a little more and others before deciding on which ones to actually get but right now it looks like im going with the Yamaha HS80s. I like the things i hear about them along with the specs they look like a great set of monitors.

I've got HS50's & a friend has HS80's & although his go down 4 or 5 more Hz than mine, he & I find that the bass response drops off a cliff. I needed the sub to make it all workable & he has found that when he plays stuff that he's mixed on his 80s on HiFi systems then the low to mid bass is all wrong.




But I can imagine that the KRKs may be similarly setup to make people include a sub. It needs looking into, because if it has a steep roll off like the HS then the choice maybe to include a sub or to look at something else.

I have one friend who uses Tannoy Hifi speakers & he seems to get it to work pretty well, but he only does bands so the lowest he goes is the electric bass.

I also have the Yamaha sub HS10w running with the HS80M's. To be honest here I used the sub all the time when I was running 5" monitors like the HS50M's since having upgraded to the HS80M monitors I very rarely need the sub....95% of the time just the monitors by themselves are translating the low end fine....maybe its the room I'm in but I don't hear such a dramatic difference when I A and B with sub on and sub off.

Nobody can tell you what's 'best' for you.

Compare their specs, listen to them, read reviews and then decide for yourself.
