MPC 2000 XL Power Failure - Clicking Sound

What up heads!?

Im wondering if anyone has ever has this problem with their 2000XL...

Im trying to equip my XL with a CF card reader via IDE. I connected it, turned it on, but couldn't read the CF card in the drive. Then I did some more research and found out that I need the 1.2 OS for the card reader to work. So I took out the CF drive, and put my floppy drive back in, attemtping to load the latest OS (1.2) with my floppy drive.

Now that the floppy drive is back in, when I try to power it on, it makes this clicking sound as if its trying to turn on but it wont work. I dont know what to do at this point. Does anyone have any advice or encountered this problem before?

Did you connect the floppy drive to the proper floppy port? I'm just guessing that you could get confuse and connected the floppy ribbon cable to the IDE port where you connected the CF card

^ also, make sure the floppy cable is the right way... I suggest flipping it around on one end to see if that helps.

Yeap! that's a common mistake... check your cables!

Thanks for the help y'all. Indeed I connected the floppy to the wrong port on the board. Got it to start up now...updated the OS to 1.2, reconnected the CF reader, but it still wont recognize the drive.

Now I really dont know what to do.

What CF card and what card reader are you using?

It's known that the 2kxl can be quite picky when it comes to different brands and types of CF cards. I have an addonics card reader in mine, and i had to try about 5 different cards until i found one the 2kxl would read (a SanDisk 1GB CF card, seems those are a safe bet).

kingston cards worked in my experience, and sandisk 2 I think it was also worked...

dont forget to power on the mpc with the card inserted already.

and the disk is a Duracell 4 GB Compact Flash card...do you guys think I should change the brand of the disk or the type of drive?
