SODIMM Error

Hello, need some help with my 2500.

At first it was restarting when recording samples. Tried different OSes and resetting ram (ordered on ebay, came with a 128 toshiba stick, so 64mb). It let me record with the JJ OS but would still restart after some recording time.

I figured i'd try out a different stick of ram, so ordered a 256 stick(to get 128), all the specs were right, etc.

After trying to install it, it now gives a SODIMM error over the XXXMB installed on both the new stick of ram and the old stick. I also get a SDRAM error when trying to run it on the internal 16mb (no stick). I have tried cleaning the slot with compressed air. Any idea of what it could be? I also handled the ram while grounded(touching metal case). Is it something i can likely fix my self? if i have to send it in to somewhere, what's the likely cost?

is it really that hard to look around ? all the info is in 1000 section, sticky right at the top of the section...anyhow

You ask why 256MB?

The Ram is 64x4. meaning it has 4 banks of memory that are 64MB's Each
The MPC1000's hardware structure only can read one side of the ram chip or two banks if I'm not mistaken, (someone hear can confirm the right reason) anyway.. it will only read half of the Ram so there fore if you use 128 only 64MB will show up on your MPC1000. This is why we use 256MB so that 128MB shows up. Now dont complain about 128MB cause thats the max the MPC1000 deals with. So dont buy 512MB!

Now why do we buy it? cause its cheaper to buy 3rd party Ram than Akai's ram. Akai charges 3 Times the amount for their ram which is still 3rd party ram made by 'Hynix' which is ironic to say the least in my situation, though I got mine out of a second hand laptop in a compuuter fair. So do the math. Pay $99 or £99 for 128MB of Akai ram when in some PC stores $99 or £99 can buy you 1gig or more of ram!! erm...I think not akai!! so why not buy a well known and trusted Brand Like Kingston and install that instead for $45 or about £30-£40 of 256MB.

I've seen that post but my issue is occuring without any ram install i get a SDRAM Error not a SODIMM Error

sodimm is only ram related...when you took out the ram expansion on the boot up mpc should say 16MBS installed right ? and it still crashes ?

if it's still crashing without any ram make sure the ram sockets arent damaged or have any dirt debree inside

Like i stated before a SDRAM ERROR!! comes up not a SODIMM ERROR!! it crashes and gives me a SDRAM ERROR !! with the built in 16MB ram only. I know the difference between the two
