yo!

how would you go about achieving the distortion you get when you tune into an FM radio station, but slightly twist the dial? it sounds kinda ring modulation like, but not completely..

Try using one of these http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Coby+-+Wireless+Car+FM+Transmitter/8537513.p;jsessionid=09E254804B8DFDCAE512454DDCE38E6A.bbolsp-app02-45?id=1188558601548&skuId=8537513

(You probably want to shop around for one that does not require being plugged into a cigarette lighter, of course.)

Transmit the beat through a radio and resample it through the radio. Then you can modulate the distortion using the tuning knob.

This is the only authentic way of achieving this effect... I may have to try it because I already have one of those transmitters. 8)

Yes sir. Combine MFX #31 (Radio tuning) with MFX #26 (Ring mod) and you can get the desired effect. I mentioned the 606 over the 404/303 because the 606 is the only SP that can mix two different effects at the same time. But all Roland SPs got that radio tune effect.
