187 vs PGMmaker

Just wondering which one you all like better.
I know one is free and one is $20, but how do the features compare?
I would gladly support Steven with a donation if I knew for sure it 187 was the better option. Has anyone tried both?

Depends on what platform you are using. If you have a Mac running 10.3, then you can only use 187. If you have Win9x, WinMe, WinXP, Win2k, then you can use MPC1000 Program Creator.

If you have Mac OS9, 10.1 or 10.2 then you are pretty much out of luck.

I am starting a Linux version (actually would be platform independant and run on just about any personal computer made).

I am on a Mac running 10.3.5.
There are 2 available prorams for me.
One is called MPC Pad 187 (free)
One is called MPCPgmMaker ($20)

I was asking experienced users which one they like better before I spend my money. I will probably end up just getting both and comparing for myself.

Well I gave MPC PAD187 a try and I like it except it lacks the ability to recognize aiff files. Looks like I'll go with MPCPgmMaker.

Anyone have further incite please inform.

u cant use aiff files with the mpc anyway though

I guess I was under the impression that it converts them before assigning them to MPC. Is there a program anyone knows of that converts aiff to wav?

You are right.

MPCPgmMaker was originally designed for the MPC2000XL. With some help, Seishu adapted it to handle MPC2000 and MPC3000. It has never been extended to handle the MPC1000 directly, but the 1000 can import MPC2000XL format.

I went ahead and paid for MPCPgmMaker so I could compare the two myself since nobody on this board seemed to have any insight with regards to my ORIGINAL question (thanks anyway).
Now I am having other problem. Using MPCPgmMaker......
I started with some drum sounds that were .aiff format. I assigned them to pads in PgmMaker and saved everything (samples and PGM file) in a new folder. Now they are .wav format and everything looks good and ready to go. When I plug in my MPC1000 everything loads but no sound comes from pads. I get a message saying "wrong file" and now all the samples have a ? in front of their name.
Any suggestions?
Oh yeah....
The program is called Jazz Kit A
Each sample is titled J25TA~01.wav, J25TA~02.wav, etc....
(displayed as ?J25TA~01.wav on MPC1000)

I have been told this program will work with the MPC1000 is this correct?

I have the MPC1000.exe for PC. I love it. Its a great way to audition and perfect your drum kits. Something interesting: I was reading about the mac version and it said you can adjust all the settings in the sub-menus, and i was like, damn i need a mac. I went to use my 1000 software yesterday, and right clicked on one of the pads with a sample in it. BEHOLD!!!! you can adjust all the settings!!! yes! i'm extremely happy with this software. The only thing i was wondering was if the macs software is quiet when playing the samples in the pads? when ever i drop a sample into a pad and click on it, it plays back super quiet? why is it so loud in the folder view, but not when they hit the pad. I tried adjusting the velocity to 100 from 70, but i dont think it made a difference...

heavysound: whats happening (i think) when you get the "?sample" is that the wav file is a lower bit rate than it should be. On the 2000 when i loaded up a lower bitrated sample, it would play at a higher pitch. It needs to be at something like 1400 or whatever. When your loading in the aiff sounds, they are probably a lower bitrate/quality than your normal wav files you use. The 1000 (which i have now) will simply not play these lower bitrate files, it just says ?

yeah, but check the wav files (when you move the cursor over the file) I bet the bitrate is really low. The other thing is to go into your program and reselect the samples in the memory into each pad, then save the updated program over the old one...

Also, try finding an audio converter that can convert aiff to wav.

I think the 1000 only handles 16 bit 44000khz.
