Hey amigos.
quick question. (hopefully)
so i used to record my shit into my computer via 2 outputs split into one (out of my mpc) into the back of my comp in through the headphone jack....
but now i started making the beat, saving it, and then transferring it and stitching parts together via usb. its less loud than the first option (headphone jack ish), but better quality obviously, just quieter.

my QUESTION is
what do you dudes suggest i do to make the levels a little louder, i cant afford protools, and i have an m audio fast track pro, but its wierd and i feel like it sucks i dont know, maybe i should give it another go...

i want my stuff to be a little louder, do you suggest getting something like cubase, and maybe usb-ing it into cubase, i can turn the levels up?

I dont know really! let me know if you have any suggestions peoples. thanks, and good day.

This is from me, you'll get a hundred other answers but, ****, this is from me.

You can resample all your beats via "Record the Main Outs" and send them to your comp. OR, you can record your session on CD thru an antique cd-recorder and burn it to your harddrive. I do both but mostly record to cd first. Why? Because it records my eq and amp settings "as is". Just gotta watch the dB meter to avoid clipping. Keep it at -4 to 0dBs. The Main Outs are the hottest outputs than the multi that you track out with.

Keep it grimey.

no idea what you mean by any of that homie. sorry, thanks though

resample via record the main outs is what i do man, i record, 'main', then save them, then usb those back onto my comp..

im asking how to make THAT louder basically, or the easiest way possible, blah
By New Jack Mon Jul 18, 2011 5:38 am
no offence but you guys arent really getting what im asking, maybe its my fault?

ok... mastering on the mpc is fine, inside the mpc i mean, its fine, i still record it, normalize it etc, so its now a saved wav file in the mpc

when i put it back on my comp it sounds good.....

MY QUESTION IS

how do i make that track which sounds good, to sound louder and better, ive done all i can do inside the mpc at this point and i need something else to make it louder and sound more mastered, the quality and loudness is as best as can be when i upload the wav files onto my comp. its just not loud enough......its not mastered enough

do you understand?....

beachbreak already told you how to raise the volume inside the mpc. be careful, because if you rise the master level to high and you have many tracks going at once there can be distortion.

if you want your tracks to be louder you have to understand the principles of (master-)compression. read about that and the so called "loudness war", maybe than you understand why louder always comes with a compromise on sound quality.

and always remember there is no way to get over 0db in digital equipment!

you have a audio interface which is better than your mic in - use it! read the manual first, maybe look for updated drivers and ask us if you need help.

also there is nothing wrong with transfering the resampled beats via usb if they sound good on the mpc. if the beat sounds lower in volume when played back from your computer check if you daw is giving the same output level to your speakers as you mpc does. if your master level in the mpc is at -6db expect your beat to be at -6db in the daw aswell. after that you have this 6db to make it "louder" and you can reduce the dynamics further via compression in the daw.

read and learn - and experiment with all the tools you have at hand. reaper is a daw with all the functions of the big players like logic, cubase or protools - download a copy and try it. and read all about mastering you can find.

peace, jo

^^ Thanks amigo. your the man.

i think i know what im doing with regards to the whole master level on the mpc, etc as i said, it sounds GOOD when i put it on the computer transfering it via usb, i just kinda want it louder with more of a master'd sound....which i definetly need an additional program or piece of hardware for.

im gunna look at reaper and try to figure something out here, i definetly appreciate the help peoples.

peace and love

so reaper isnt for mac... which is what i said i had haha

ok i have a fast track pro, i tried using it, but audacity was fuhking around too much and kept glitching out with it, so i dont know. i also heard how much it sucks i kind of gave up on it, i still have it however.

all im doing is telling you what i have, mpc, fast track pro, reason, and how i used to make the beat, and how i changed how i made them via exporting saved beats in the mpc usb wav files.

so anyone have any idea what i can do with these programs & machines, so i dont have to spend any more money on equipment or soundcards etc, i make beats and there good as ****, i just want them louder, and with the stuff i have i think i can do so ive read as much as i can and messed with the db and mastering on the mpc as much as possible, it can only sound so good once you export it through the usb as a wav onto the mac!

help!

Being honest with you, I'd give a try to Garageband. Really.

I know you can evaluate Reaper for free (and I'm doing it too), but if it's only to track down your shit and apply mastering AUs (MAC audio plugins), garageband is all you need (as of now).

KEEP IT SIMPLE: track the main out to your Audio Interface into Garage band, as previously advised don't hit over -6 (I'd safely go to -3db - but it's personal taste) and try to **** with some good compressor/limiter/exciter...

Give a try to PSP / Waveart / Waves / IK Mutimedia if you're into proprietary plugins, otherwise, if you like it free, just google "free audio mastering plugin Mac" and you'll be served with more than enough choice.

EXPERIMENT with your ears and use the Spectrum Analyzer, it's your friend.

PEACE OUT

funkydrops...............

god damn, im an idiot.

i feel like a helpless child trying to use this program.

this is what im trying to do. i got the outs of my mpc into the (only) 2 fronts on the fast track, usb'd out of the fast track onto my comp

reaper will pick up the fast track as the device, btu when i push play on my mpc, and record on reaper, absolutely nothing happens.

so annoying, im trying to fux with everything, and see if i disabled this or that, un muted things etc, but i honest to god cannot figure out while the track isnt recording right into it via mpc outs to front 1/4 inch inputs on fast track, back side of fast track usb'd into my comp...

if possible, could you help me out? anyone? i dont know what the hell im doing wrong. peace and love.

forget about the fast track. you already have worked out a good way to get your beats into the computer - by resampling, then drag and drop via USB. there is nothing wrong with using this method. that's how i do it.
By New Jack Sat Jul 23, 2011 12:32 am
ive worked out a good way.... indeed, sort of? its pretty pre school if you ask me

sounds good, its just not masterd or loud enough for me, still sounds GOOD though, but it needs to be better

that my dear friend beach break is the problem, it sounds good, but its not good enough for ME to send out to labels etc, when i hear my buddies using shit like fl studio and it sounds loud and mastered as fuk..... i want my shit to be louder and to have more of a surround sound to it.

but i was letting ppl know what i have (fast track pro) (reason) and my mac etc, just so they know what im using and if theres something specific i can do to make it louder etc...holla atcha boye.

as others have mentioned - use a compressor/limiter/exciter plug-in for mastering. there is no great mystery here - do it and your tracks will sound louder.
will they sound better? maybe. poorly used compression and limiting will kill a track.

your mates' track might sound louder than your track on their home stereo, but not on the car stereo. tracks are mastered for specific sound systems. something that was mastered for vinyl to be played on a 40,000 watt sound system may not sound any good as an mp3 on an Ipod, and vice versa.

another possible reason your tracks may not sound as loud as your mates' tracks is EQ. maybe try a hi-pass filter on your bass and kicks to get rid of any super low frequencies that can't be heard but still eat up your headroom.
