I gotta e-mu mp-7 and wanted to know how I could hook it up and use those sounds on my mpc 4k. what would i need to do?
there's no magic here man; firstly read the manuals and learn how to assign the sounds from your modules to midi channels 1-16. Sometimes your sound modules will have two midi in ports so you can assign 32 sounds; usually 1-16A for the first sixteen and 1-16b for the second sixteen. One midi cable can only carry sixteen midi channels (messages) these cables do not produce audio.
So; take the midi ins from the sound modules and connect to the mpc midi out a,b,c, or d. Make sure the sound modules audio outs are connected to a mixer or you won't be able to hear anything; again audio and midi are entirely different. Do not connect the midi outs from your sound modules; leave them alone; only use the midi ins to the mpc's midi outs. Your keyboard (if you have one) is the only device that should have midi out connected to midi in 1 on the mpc 4000. If your keyboard has preset sounds;samples then connect the midi in to a midi out on the mpc 4000.
On the main screen of the mpc 4000 set up your sequence tempo etc....
0n the screen go down to where it says Out1 (tracks section) highlight out 1:PART and turn the dial clockwise to OUT A. This will now allow you to play sounds from the module you connected to midi out a on the mpc off of your pads on the mpc or keyboard. You;ll also be able to select what midi channel (1-16) for sixteen different sounds out of your sound module. You'll have to go to track 2 and so on to get a different sound going on each track. just follow the above steps again and again.
For the second sound module simply switch to OUT B and again follow the above steps.
Tutor; there really should be a basic midi hookup tutorial; my apologies if there is one and I didn't see it. But this is the most repetetive question in these forums.
