New pad upgrade...

My mpc has the new pad upgrade with the censors... One of my pads is not working... It only works when it wants to and it is the top left pad that wont work (only sometimes) I noticed that when i play the other pads the top pads are kind of lose they pump up when i play the bottom row... does anyone know what I can do to fix this? do I have to buy a new upgrade kit again?

If you do have a serious issue, you'd probably only have to replace the sensor sheet itself, rather than a whole new padfix kit. The sheets are about $75 I think. It sounds like the 2 small tabs that hold the pad sheet in place may have gotten misaligned. (air pumping under the sheet like you said.)

Break out a screwdriver, and dust off the sensor sheet very lightly with a microfiber cloth, (if they're even dusty at all), then make sure the 2 little tabs on the rubber sheet are properly aligned. I've had the pads lay snugger after taking apart and putting back together MPC's.

If that doesn't help look into a new sensor sheet. Good luck.

Yeah you're right they are sold at MPCstuff.com and VST Service. When I first mentioned it, I forgot a 1000 sheet may be harder to find. A lot of the units with regular square pads have interchangeable sheets so they are much easier to source.

I'm no expert at these matters, I just have a bunch of different models and have opened them all before. I mentioned the sensor sheet because I never heard anyone having anything more serious than that be an issue if the new padfix was installed. It would suck to have to buy a whole new upgrade kit at $180 if you only need the sheet. But again I'm just taking a guess. MPCstuff and VST both have the full kit available.

I don't know if you installed the pad upgrade you have now, but if not it's real easy to drop in there, pads, sensors and metal frame together.

Yo i opened up the mpc and the lines are well aligned to the sensors and dusted it off but it still does the same thing it werks only when it wants to. Guess I'm gonna have to get that sheet. Sucks if I can't find the 1000 sheet cuz I'm gonna have to purchase the whole kit but thnx for gettn back at me.

the upgrade pads suck... well not really the pads but the sensor sheets they really suck, save your money or you'll be going back to get a new sheet 75 bucks a pop. i use the old pads, you can get a whole pad assembly for about $90 it will last you and if any pads go bad you can just replace the pads themselves, just unplug from the pcb and plug the replacement in no need to even solder anything

but also some people get everything upgraded and adjusted with sensitivity and later figure out the upgraded pads suck so they go back to the original pads but screw up on their configs and then they have problems with the pad sounds being weak

really? my blue 1000 is on its way, and i'll have to replace the pads eventually...is there a way to get a good sensor sheet?

I wouldn't put too much faith in what mosdman is saying. When Akai upgraded the MPC 1000 pads/sensors they simply went back to the original design from the MPC 60/3000/2000/XL/4000. So if what he's saying is true, why is he in a minority of one, saying the original 1000 pads are great?

Sensor sheets are prone to failure after heavy usage. the same as other internal MPC parts.

mosdman is likely Cosmic Pimp, going out of his way to mess with you guys.

the old pads suck ass. period. it's called the pad upgrade for a reason. but if you wanna keep the OG pad steez alive, go for it... someone's gotta put that old trash to use.

If the rubber pads don't have the little rubber pegs pushed into the holes they will react as you describe. Use a thin screw driver (carefully) or maybe a q-tip with one cotton end cut off to poke to holes in the rubber pegs into the holes on the sensor sheet so the rubber pads are flush with the surface and screw the MPC back together, that might fix your issue.
